Daley to triple Chicago gun registration fee?

There should be a few more angry Chicago gun owners (what's left )

Budget , Budget

Highlights from Mayor Daley's budget

Towards the bottom

Install red-light cameras at 50 more intersections.

• Raise $2 million by seeking sponsorships for city assets and events, beginning with a new agreement to provide beverage and vending services at city-owned facilities

• Eliminate Fire Department Segway patrols in the Loop

• Increase gun registration fee from $20 to $60 per firearm

• Impose $39 fee for fingerprinting for liquor and other licenses. (It’s currently free.)

Increase the reimbursement fee paid by professional sports teams for traffic control from $18.25 an hour per traffic control aide to $23.25 an hour.

It's time to start asking " Why is a fee being charged for a constitutional right? " Chicagoans' still have to get an FOID also.

Yasliff, thanks for the post, but your post's title is incorrect.

This gun fee increase is only a proposal (and a hair-brained one at that).

The fee is not "to increase" ... it is merely yet another of King Daley's wishes that he won't see.

Well I guess we will have to live with a borked up title. I can't seem to find the means to edit it.

I changed it - check to make sure it's what it should be . . .

Looks fine. But as a joke, how about "Mayor Daley Proposes Chicago Gun fee increase (now that's borked up!)"

My apologies if this has already been discussed.

Guess What Won't Happen?

Buried among the articles and budget legalese is this tiny gem spotted by a reader:

* Increase gun registration fee from $20 to $60 per firearm

Guess what isn't going to get registered anymore? If you guessed "guns," give yourself a pat on the back. We address some of the impact in the article right above this one.

Just another argument for the Chicago gun case - Prohibitive fees to exercise a constitutional right. The worse Daley makes it the better the outcome for gun owners will be.

Keep spreading the word. We need Chicago's gun owners to wake up and join the battle.

Perhaps the next Chicago rally will grow like I-Gold did.

Spreading the word is the key. Lots of my friends didn't realize there was a rally. "Didn't see anything on TV." When I directed them to the web pictures many would at least admit to the media bias here in Chicago. I told them Jessie or Pflieger gets 10 people and it's all over. We get hundreds, and nothing.

I guess I suprise many aquaintances with my 2nd anendment stance, as I'm not the stereotypical "gun nut redneck." But slowly, I'm finding people are seeing our arguments. It's happening, just real s l o w .

There's something I'm not quite clear on: is this budget a done deal, or does Daley have to get the approval of the City Council (which might, come to think of it, mean that it is as good as a done deal)?

"shall not be infringed"

Of course I am against registration....

but I do it every year. I am actually waiting for my renewal on 5 guns.....

but just for accuracy sake......it IS NOT 20 bucks per gun.

Ain't no "perhaps" about it!

Pffft

Its a non - issue to me. We're all on the same side here. I've said before that I would rather see something repeated a few times rather than the chance it never gets posted and no one sees it at all.

I've noticed AR15 . com gets a bit possessive when it gets to Who posted an original thread and spats break out on "ownership". We don't get that here and it's a nice thing to encourage. :hairy:

This is a great statement on the part of Yasliff.

I realize this is a strong opinion, but anyone who gets bent out of shape regarding glory or credit for merely posting news on a gun board really, really ought to get out and get a life!

As long as everyone knows that this is my thread now :hairy:.

Sorry Super, I believe the board rules are that once a Mod touches a thread, it is HIS!!

Heck, I even forget what this one is about!!!!!!
