borgranta Posted September 17, 2013 at 01:41 PM Share Posted September 17, 2013 at 01:41 PM Will Illinois need to preempt all local regulations of handgun ranges in order to get a range in Chicago? I ask because the financially challenged residents of Chicago might find it hard or impossible to get a carry license with no ranges in the city. There are countless municipalities that may abuse existing ranges with excessive regulations to slow down or halt the carry process.
s0beit Posted September 17, 2013 at 01:49 PM Share Posted September 17, 2013 at 01:49 PM Will they need to? Probably. Will they? Who knows. Would be nice if we could get some shops, too.

C0untZer0 Posted September 17, 2013 at 02:32 PM Share Posted September 17, 2013 at 02:32 PM My plan is we fix up a 48" trailer with the plates needed and everything, maybe enough for 2 firing lanes, and it is a MOBILE range. THINKABODIT !

bob Posted September 17, 2013 at 04:31 PM Share Posted September 17, 2013 at 04:31 PM There was a court case where the 7th CA told Chicago unequivocally they could not ban ranges. That does not mean that the city can't require ranges to operate in a safe way that does not interfere with other people's rights. Ranges have traditionally been noisy and dirty, and it is not inexpensive to design a range that avoids those issues.

THINKABODIT ! You will probably be the the first one booked for discharging a firearm within city limits. While there may be some ranges NEAR the city please keep it in mind that many folks living in the city have NEVER owned a car. By design the residents without a car can never have access to a CCW permit or firearm as it is against Chiraq law to carry a firearm on municipal transportation. How can they possibly meet the requirements for CCW if they can not purchase one and bring it home or to class?
RandyP Posted September 20, 2013 at 03:24 PM Share Posted September 20, 2013 at 03:24 PM "How can they possibly meet the requirements for CCW if they can not purchase one and bring it home or to class? " One thought for getting the permit, range rental? To buy and then get it home? The same buddy with a car they have been using all these years for emergencies. And please do not misunderstand my comment - I AM a Chicago resident and recognize the many and various ways our fearless leaders continue to screw us over royally - 2nd Amendment issues included. And we will ALWAYS have more flaming hoops to jump through than any other resident of this sorry old State. But it is quite likely that most folks who will try to get a CCW WILL find a way to get it, even though it will pose real difficulties. This is also not a rich/poor issue as lots of folks of all income levels don't own a car in Chicago, but one way or another they do find access to transportation beyond the 'public' kind..
