I will let you know when we need to go to the Thur meeting.
GarandFan Posted June 2, 2008 at 01:32 PM Posted June 2, 2008 at 01:32 PM I thought that video was lost forever when flash bunny went off into the cybervoid. I recall mentioning that it would be really neat if during the next election cycle, some faces of our favorite politicians were in the first text panel. Faces such as Daley, Acevedo, BLago, Chuck Jefferson, dad and daughter Madigan, etc, to really tie them to their anti-right position. Now, given Obama's recent statement that no one should have a CCW, if his face were to be displayed prominently in the first text panel, that advertisement would be political dynamite!!! I see your point here, but there are some reasons to NOT make this a blatantly political issue. This issue is first and foremost about common-sense self and family defense. I don't see it as a platform for railing against elected officials (however hostile they might be to the issue). I think making this thing political like that will detract from the purpose, and from the likelihood of success.
Kenny Posted June 2, 2008 at 03:07 PM Author Posted June 2, 2008 at 03:07 PM Well I just got off the phone with my advertising contact at WIFR. The flashbunny Ad is considered "Political" so it has to go through a different department which is no problem, BUT the problem is there has to be a political orginazition to run it so at the end of the ad it would have to say this ad paid for by "XXXXXX XXXXX XXXX XXX" and it has to be an organized group that can buy ad space. So if we are going to run the ad we need to get someone from the ISRA or NRA to do it not me. Being that both orginizations have bigger fish to fry I doubt we can get it done. We will just have to keep pushing forward by word of mouth and hopefully make some headway. I wonder how the anti groups get their ads on TV? Is it considered a political ad or a PSA? Is anyone in the ad business that could look into this?
Gooch Posted June 2, 2008 at 03:59 PM Posted June 2, 2008 at 03:59 PM I strongly suggest that you remove references that are hostile to the paper itself - "biased media" - and the use of generally negative language - such as "poisoned." You can also word your letter to suggest that those opposing carry are in the minority. My suggestions are in bold below. Hey GF, Thanks for your input. You are correct with the above suggestions and I will submit my LTE with your proposed changes. At times I have been a bit irritated (maybe you could tell) with my local newspaper (The Rockford Register Star). The "opportunity to educate" goes a lot further with a bit of sugar instead of salt right? I tip my hat to you sir!http://illinoiscarry.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/thumbsup.pnghttp://illinoiscarry.com/forum/style_emoti...lt/thumbsup.png Gooch

cberan Posted June 3, 2008 at 02:40 PM Posted June 3, 2008 at 02:40 PM Let me know what you guys think. I just sent this to Don A. Moran, the president of the ISRA: Don:We need a great deal of help. I’m sure as you know that Winnebago County is trying to pass CCW's. Fred Wescott is trying his best to help out and needs all the help you can get him. He has made a guest book for people to put their comments on and he will be taking all of the comments to the board meeting on the 10th of June. We need all the comments we can get. We also need all the people to attend the meeting you can gather up. The floor will be open to the public for the first time on the subject. This is the link to Fred’s guest book. http://www.fredwescott.com/Guestbook.php?posted=1 As for the meeting next Tuesday night, it will be June 10th at 5:30 at memorial hall (211 N. Main St. Rockford, IL 61101. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. We also need someone to do some advertising on the local TV station, we should be able to come up with the money for it, but we need an association to submit it to the TV station for us. Thank you Don, Christopher My phone number is (815) XXX-XXXX if you would like to get in touch with me about any of this, or if you need any more info.

lockman Posted June 3, 2008 at 05:19 PM Posted June 3, 2008 at 05:19 PM You can bet that ads by by these stop violence groups are not concidered "pollitical". It only becomes political when the viewpoint is opposite the media management's position on the subject.
Kenny Posted June 3, 2008 at 05:41 PM Author Posted June 3, 2008 at 05:41 PM My LTE ran in todays paper. Link Posted Jun 02, 2008 @ 11:23 PM --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Winnebago County is in the middle of a debate to have concealed carry. What we really have to ask is: Why is concealed carry so good? All we have to do is look at states that have passed it. Thirty-six states have “shall issue.” That means if you apply and have no felony record, they have to issue you a permit. These states have had no problem with concealed carry. Wherever it has passed, crime has dropped significantly. The bad guys usually attack a person, knowing he or she is unarmed, but when they face the possibility of being shot or killed for their wrong intentions, they hesitate. The Wild West everyone has referred to has not happened. If Illinois won’t give the people of our county the right of self-defense, then I believe our county should. Everyone who values the right given by our forefathers to protect our life from criminals should take the time to attend the meetings and stand up and be counted. Don Gwinn Posted June 4, 2008 at 01:16 AM Posted June 4, 2008 at 01:16 AM The woman in the flash video is Betty Wendt--maybe some of you remember "Runt of the Litter" from the old TFL days. She used to date Oleg Volk and he got a LOT of pictures of her, so you see her in his work a lot. She edits text for SWAT magazine, moderates online gun forums, and carries many guns. She's kinda my hero a little. :Crying. =-(:
Kenny Posted June 4, 2008 at 03:02 AM Author Posted June 4, 2008 at 03:02 AM I want to thank everyone that came out tonight. I know it was not formal or perfect but we got to meet a few people & next week we will kind of know who alot of us are. There were about 12-15 people I think Bushrat will be posting a picture when he gets home. Fred Wescot & Jim Webster were there & they seemed to have a good time. Sherriff Myers did not show up, but in his defense I told him about it on Sunday and it could have very well slipped his mind. I don't hold it against him. It was good to meet everyone & just BS with like minded people. My cop buddies couldn't make it but one did stop in for a second on his way to Gander Mountain. A few people NOT on Illinoiscarry.com showed up too from the e-mails I sent out from my KAP Guns mailing list. We have 3 more people going next week that probably wouldn't have had I not sent them an e-mail. All in all I was pleased I had everyone give me their information so I could turn it over to the ATF. (Just Kidding) I will be putting that together so we can all keep in contact with each other. I was pleased with the turnout.

Mike Posted June 4, 2008 at 06:40 PM Posted June 4, 2008 at 06:40 PM I can't make the Winnebago County Board meeting but I wanted to post a copy of a fax I sent to Doug Christenson last week. I think it contains some points worth making. May 28, 2008 Scott ChristiansenWinnebago County Board Chairman Every time a state looks at approving shall issue concealed carry laws we are warned that there will be “blood running in the streets”. Although it may not be statistically proven that shall issue laws reduce violent crime it can be statistically shown that in the 36 states that have instituted shall issue concealed carry laws there has been no increase in violent gun related crime. Nationally, concealed carry permit holders have safety and arrested statistics that compare favorably to those of police officers. Why do Illinois politicians think that Illinois citizens are so much less trustworthy than the citizens of these 36 other states? In Illinois the Governor, who is provided with around the clock police protection, is against allowing citizens the basic human right of self defense. The Mayor of Chicago, who is also provided with around the clock police protection, doesn’t want citizens of Chicago to be allowed to own guns. Chicago aldermen are permitted by state law to carry concealed handguns. It almost seems as though in Illinois the basic human right of self defense is a privilege granted only to the political elite. I have lived in Winnebago County for almost 30 years. I attended college here and raised my family here. I own a house and a business here. I’m a certified public accountant and a veteran of the U.S. Army. I’m a long time active member of a Rockford service club and I volunteer with youth and community organizations. I’ve never been arrested. I belong to the Pine Tree Pistol Club and practice shooting regularly. I hold concealed carry permits from Florida and Utah which allow me to legally carry a handgun in 29 states. But not in Illinois. Concealed permit holders are very much aware that any use of their weapon can still subject them to civil liability and any improper use will subject them to criminal liability. We do not want to be heroes or police officers, we just want to be able to defend ourselves and our families. The police come after the crime is reported and try to catch the perpetrator, concealed carry permit holders only want to avoid being a victim. There may only be 10 percent of the population who chooses to obtain a permit. Of those, perhaps one half will regularly carry a handgun. In addition to the deterrent affect of the sight of an armed victim, the fact that criminals will never know which of their intended victims may be armed can provide additional deterrence. When I go to the polls this is an issue that I take into consideration. If a politician does not trust me with the ability to own or carry a weapon for self defense I do not trust that politician with political power. Sincerely,

I remember some statistics from two states that kept good records on that and permit holders had a significantly lower arrest rate than the police. I think N. or S. armueller2001 Posted June 5, 2008 at 12:33 AM Posted June 5, 2008 at 12:33 AM Check out gunfacts.info I think it was in there. Lots of interesting facts about CCW, revocation rates, how holders are over 10 times less likely to commit a crime than the average joe, etc.

Don Gwinn Posted June 5, 2008 at 05:07 AM Posted June 5, 2008 at 05:07 AM I brought up the June 10th meeting to my wife today at our family meeting and got the go-ahead to attend. That was pretty good of her, since she'll be in Wisconsin from Friday to Monday and then I'll take a leisurely four-hour jaunt up to rockford on her first day back with the family. I think it'll only be me, and I had thoughts of taking the train, but it's even worse. What's dress like? Jeans and IGOLD shirt? Coat and tie? Slacks and polo?
Kenny Posted June 5, 2008 at 11:13 AM Author Posted June 5, 2008 at 11:13 AM I will be wearing shorts & a t-shirt as will a few of the board members. Just dress normal. Please no tin foil hats (C-rock). If people want to meet at my house & car pool I will be leaving my house between 4:00 & 4:30 PM Map to my house

Your county board should take the same resolution to the floor and do the same thing. Once that happens then another will do it and so on...the effect will make those in Springfield take notice.
Mike Posted June 5, 2008 at 03:08 PM Posted June 5, 2008 at 03:08 PM When I mentioned to a liberal acquaintence that I was a member of the Pine Tree Pistol Club he said something along the lines of "Why are you hanging out with those flannel wearing rednecks?" That is the kind of attitude you need to fight when you appear in public at the board meeting. I would strongly recommend that everyone dress as nicely as possible - ties, nice slacks and jackets or pressed khakis and a sport shirt. You want to show that you are not a stereotypical gun nut and that you are successful, responsible members of the community. I would discourage t-shirts, jeans, shorts and baseball hats. Definately no camo. Obviously this is an individual decision, but give it some thought. You want to dress in a way that inspires trust.
Board9 Posted June 5, 2008 at 06:48 PM Posted June 5, 2008 at 06:48 PM I agree with Mike however the decision be yours. I will be in a suit and tie myself. I really don't care how anyone looks, I just want to see standing room only and that my shaking hand aches by the end of the night. I am sure the media will cover this meeting in full force. The Monroe Times will have a great piece in it tomorrow by a reporter named Tere Dunlop and she will also be attending the meeting on Tuesday. Watch for the editorial in Friday's Monroe Times at www.themonroetimes.com
