CCL & FOID Totals - Nonresident and Resident - 1 Nov 2016

I obtained the information below via Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Illinois State Police. As of the end of the day on Oct 31, 2016, there were 206,774 active FCCLs and 2,072,987 active FOID cards.

 

The first table below captures the current cumulative totals, as of end of day Oct 31, 2016, for Illinois Concealed Carry Licenses (CCLs) issued to nonresidents and residents since the program began. Note that these totals represent the total number ISSUED, and are not adjusted for those that have since been revoked or cancelled. This table also includes totals for CCLs that have been denied, revoked, or currently awaiting action from the Concealed Carry Licensing Review Board (CCLRB). The paragraph below the table shows the number of CCLs and FOID cards currently active, accounting for those that have since been inactivated.

 

The second table provides a trend analysis based on prior FOIA requests (note that earlier data is missing since I didn't request it at that time). The recent data also follow an end-of-month cycle to maintain consistency.

 

Some additional observations:

 

* The backlog of CCLs pending CCLRB review is relatively stable, now at 2,407 (compare to 2,411 on 1 Sep).

 

* 5,569 CCL applications were submitted in October (average 180/day).

 

* The total number of active FCCL licensees rose by 3,603 (from 203,071 to 206,774) in Oct. # nonresident licensees rose by 4 (now 33).

 

* The number of active FOID holders rose by 11,386 in Oct (from 2,061,601 to 2,072,987).
