ISP online application issues

Had a gentleman go thru CCW a month or so ago. He was also waiting for his new FOID card due to a change of address. Once he got his updated FOID he applied for CCW. When he logged into the ISP website to start his application he was informed he would need to apply for a FOID first. It didn't make sense, but he proceeded. Applied for yet another FOID online, then did his CCW app. A couple weeks later he got a letter from ISP stating his CCW app was incomplete....no photo. I knew that was not correct, as I was there when he did his app. He logged back in, and the website said he needed to resubmit his CCW app, so he clicked on the "resubmit" button, and then received a message that his app was successfully resubmitted. We both expected he would have to upload another photo, but that was not the case. The next day, he called ISP to inquire as to the status of his CCW permit, and why he had to apply AGAIN for another FOID. ISP told him it wasn't the photo that was the issue, but that he failed to answer the criminal history questions. I know he answered them the first time....I was there. He argued his case, and was told a supervisor would be in touch with him. A few days later he got a call from ISP. The updated FOID they mailed him was never activated in their computer system, but would be. His CCW app was just fine. No issues....under review. Clear as mud, eh?

And to think some folks wonder why I'm not a huge fan of the proposed JCAR rules requiring instructors to login to the ISP instructor info page every two months, AND submit all documents regarding students within 72 hours, or face revocation of approved instructor status. If the JCAR rules pass, I will be taking so many screenshots I'll need several hard drives to store it all.

I went through the online process to get FOIDs for my daughters. For my one kid, I uploaded the photo, continued with the application process, then the system logged me out and returned me to the sign-in screen. I don't know why it did that - it just kicked me out. I logged back in and started going through the process again - most of the information had been saved from my first attempt but the photo wasn't. So I uploaded the photo again and finished the process.

It was an annoying little glitch.

I just had a mistake on my foid app where I was moving when I applied. I gave new address and was rejected due to DL and address not matching. System gave only the option to enter my old address to match my DL and enter my new as mailing address so it gets mailed here at least. So now as soon as I get it I have to change my DL then do a foid address change. Worst of all I assume I have to wait another 30 days....system could function much more smoothly.

Exactly. I am not confident in their abilities to keep us updated. And to have our instructor status tied to their dependability is just not cool. It is like when I go over the FOID law and how ISP is supposed to notify folks with expiring FOID cards 60 days before they expire. I tell my students to keep their own watch on their FOID status, and to NOT trust that the ISP will mail stuff out on time to remind them.
