Tango7 Posted January 10, 2014 at 03:21 AM Share Posted January 10, 2014 at 03:21 AM I had a woman flipping out her concealed carry BADGE at me a couple weeks ago. Freaked me out, Man. What was she going to do, throw it at you? Besides getting her shot, that is all it's good for! Oh, you might be able to get a nice addition to your official history if the responding officers don't have the same sense of humor: False Personation (720 ILCS 5/17-2) (from Ch. 38, par. 17-2) (B.) False personation; public officials and employees. A person commits a false personation if he or she knowingly and falsely represents himself or herself to be any of the following:(1) An attorney authorized to practice law for purposes of compensation or consideration. This paragraph (B.)(1) does not apply to a person who unintentionally fails to pay attorney registration fees established by Supreme Court Rule.(2) A public officer or a public employee or an official or employee of the federal government.(2.3) A public officer, a public employee, or an official or employee of the federal government, and the false representation is made in furtherance of the commission of felony.(2.7) A public officer or a public employee, and the false representation is for the purpose of effectuating identity theft as defined in Section 16-30 of this Code. (b-5) The trier of fact may infer that a person falsely represents himself or herself to be a public officer or a public employee or an official or employee of the federal government if the person:(1) wears or displays without authority any uniform, badge, insignia, or facsimile thereof by which a public officer or public employee or official or employee of the federal government is lawfully distinguished; or(2) falsely expresses by word or action that he or she is a public officer or public employee or official or employee of the federal government and is acting with approval or authority of a public agency or department. ETA - the latest stupid rumor was that we have a Duty to Declare (announce), not a Duty to Inform (reply), supposedly told to a city employee by one of our cops. DoverGunner Posted January 10, 2014 at 03:53 AM Share Posted January 10, 2014 at 03:53 AM The first and foremost requirement for a carry weapon is that you are thoroughly familiar with it and can shoot it accurately. A .22 is certainly better than a sharp stick, even if it wouldn't be my first choice for self defense. It would be better if the instructor spent some time on the relative advantages and disadvantages of various weapons and calibers than to flatly refuse to qualify someone on something you might consider substandard. There are a lot of people at the gun counter who's first question to the clerk is "what should I buy for self defense." At least CCW instructors have to be certified, and far better qualified to offer advice. This only pertains to Me .I have taught many people Both men & women through the years how to shoot , I explain calibers , types of Ammunition , yada , yada , yada . Then it never fails that they ask me what pistol Do I recommend . I will recommend calibers . I have never and will never will give a recommendation for a pistol . What I do tell them is go to a range that rents pistols find one you like and buy that one .
