Is this forum dying or already dead?
vito replied to vito's topic in Illinois Right to Keep and Carry
Thanks for all the replies. Glad to know that this forum is alive, and hopefully well. I frequent a lot of gun forums. Some seem to be slowing down or mostly covering issues that I have very little interest in (such as The High Road and The Firing Line) while some stay very active, such as Rugerforum.com and Glocktalk.com. Then again, I find I am more interested in the non-gun threads most of the time, using those forums as a form of social media that I know I will not get grief from my own family since they would never imagine going to a Ruger or Glock forum for anything. I left Facebook totally and my life is the better for it. -
Is this forum dying or already dead?
vito replied to vito's topic in Illinois Right to Keep and Carry
Just tried the search feature, trying "laser", "laser sights" and "Chicago laser sights illegal" and came up with NO hits on any of them. -
Ever since concealed carry was legalized in Illinois this forum has seemed to be diminishing in activity. Since the main goal of Illinois Carry (as I understand it) was to secure legal concealed carry, maybe many stopped thinking that they needed to check in on the forum. But more recently it seems clear that things have really slowed down. This is my third post in a few days, and very few comments have been added. Maybe I just started threads of little interest, or maybe fewer and fewer gun owners are checking in on the forum. Personally I have found this forum, and many of the sub forums, very valuable and a source of good information and advice, especially when waiting what seemed like forever to get my CCL renewed. I'm hoping that fellow gun owners here in Illinois see the value here, and try to come up with topics that will further our discussions and shared communications.

I rarely go into the city of Chicago anymore, but my wife still wants to make occasional visits to the Art Institute and to the Shedd Aquariam, and of course I prefer to be armed when going to that city. I wonder if I still need to select a firearm for concealed carry that does not have a laser sight installed when visiting Chicago. And yes, I uderstand that it is prohibited to bring a firearm into the Art Institute or the Shedd, but I can still carry while traveling to and from those places.

Clear and Present Danger Question
vito replied to Molly B.'s topic in Illinois Right to Keep and Carry
Having all of your firearms in one readily visible safe makes the seizure easy for the police. The one accidentally buried in a watertight container under the flower garden might be forgotten about when you tell them where your guns are. -
This hasn't been an issue for me up until now, but it well might be one in the future. Can I give a family member, such as a child or grandchild one of my firearms without having to do so through an FFL? Would that child or grandchild have to have a FOID card to receive the gun, either directly from me or through an FFL? And what about the case of a gun being given to a family member years ago, without any paperwork at all? The particular firearm could be shown to have been bought by someone, and then given to a family member, and yet there would be no record of when or how the gun was transferred. Thanks to anyone who can clarify this for me since I still live in Illinois and likely will remain here for the foreseeable future.

Constitutional concealed carry reciprocity
vito replied to Woody's topic in Illinois Right to Keep and Carry
You'll be waiting forever if you truly think that any Supreme Court will rule that all infringements, for any reason, are unConstitutional. We live in a divided nation. Even if concealed carry reciprocity became the law of the land, do you think that places like NY, CA, MD, etc. would NOT add a thousand categories to the prohibited places and then would vigorously prosecute and imprison any out of stater foolish enough to think that they could get away with carrying a gun in their locations? The best we can reasonably hope for is to incrementally move toward real freedom but not to expect everything in one simple shot. -
The only thing keeping me here in IL is my wife's desire to stay close to long term friends as well as several of our grown children. I know that WI is not always much better, but I would be happy to move across the border into WI and still be relatively close to family. The only saving grace to living in Rockford is that it is not in Cook County. Pritzker things he is the King, not the Governor, and moronic voters support him. Beyond pathetic.

Constitutional concealed carry reciprocity
vito replied to Woody's topic in Illinois Right to Keep and Carry
Whether you like it or not, both the Federal government and most State governments have decided to essentially ignore the 2nd Amendment's prohibilion on infringements. You can repeat endlessly that the 2nd Amendment is all we need as the cuffs are put on you or the jail door is closed. The 2nd Amendment says "....shall not be infringed" yet no one, not Illinois Carry, not the NRA, not the GOA, etc, is trying to get the limits on machine guns repealed. Like it or not, the concept that gun rights can be restricted is accepted even by the Conservatives on the Supreme Court. If we could get our concealed carry permit to be as universally accepted as our driver's license is, even in places like NY and CA, we will be far ahead of where we are today. -
Torturing small animals is a classic sign of psychopathology. No normal person would do this and I doubt that anyone "outgrows" such behavior. I've a dog person but I have had cats at various times in my life, and some have been truly remarkable pets, showing as much affection and loyalty as any dog that I have owned. I am stunned that the NRA would find themselves in this mess and hope it is rectified shortly. Most Americans, including many gun rights supporters, will have no confidence in this man whatsoever.

I would hope that I never need a criminal defense attorney, but if I did, having this forum as a resource is certainly helpful. I notice that the original post on this thread by Molly has not been updated, something that would be very helpful as a reference tool rather than having to read through every post on this multi page thread. I'll also add that when looking up the attorneys listed or mentioned later for my location (Rockford), at least one did not even have a website, which makes him appear as a fairly unsophisticated attorney. I have no idea what vetting, if any, has been done before a name is put on the list.

So where do we stand on the provision limiting magazines to 10 round capacity?

Prohibited Carry Zones - 23 Categories
vito replied to Molly B.'s topic in Illinois Right to Keep and Carry
Coyotes are often seen on the extensive grounds of a local community college. I have been told that some of those who walk their dogs on these grounds carry concealed as a protection against possible coyote attack. This is one area that I would hope someday can be removed from the "do not carry" list here in IL, along with public transportation. -
Non FOID card holder needs to sell firearms
vito replied to vito's topic in Illinois Right to Keep and Carry
The neighbor that passed away was an avid hunter (I am not a hunter) and I think his widow is hoping that some of these friends either offer to buy the guns and/or assist her in selling them. I was not aware of this when I started the post earlier today but she shared that info with my wife. I am still offering to help out as needed. Thanks again for the advice. -
Non FOID card holder needs to sell firearms
vito replied to vito's topic in Illinois Right to Keep and Carry
I will suggest that to her, but not right now. As an organ donor his body has not yet been released to the funeral home, and the widow is delaying even making funeral arrangements until hearing from some out of town relatives. I told her when she is ready we can talk about what she wants to do with his firearms as well as his several vehicles and that I will try to help her as best I can. I truly appreciate all the good advice that has been provided already. -
My neighbor recently passed away and his widow is talking about selling his guns. She does not have a FOID card. Will she be able to sell his guns through a licensed dealer even though she herself has no FOID?

States Where Illinois Carry Licensees May Carry
vito replied to Molly B.'s topic in Illinois Right to Keep and Carry
I'm glad I got my Utah license, which I originally did so that I could carry in Wisconsin (before IL had a concealed carry license). Even now it is helpful when I visit my son in Texas. Between the Utah and the IL license I am legal as I drive through IL, MO, OK and Texas. I also had a NH license but I let it expire since it only adds NH (a place I am unlikely to travel to). I also still have PA, but not sure I will go through the hassle of renewing in person when the current one expires. -
Prohibited Carry Zones - 23 Categories
vito replied to Molly B.'s topic in Illinois Right to Keep and Carry
Since the law says that the listed prohibited places will be posted, does that mean that until they get around to posting you can assume concealed carry is not prohibited? And while some of the wording is straightforward, like schools, hospitals, government buildings, some seem vague like "entertainment venue" and "artistic venue". -
I think everyone needs to be careful when signing up for an insurance, or pre-paid legal service agreement. I was looking into various companies and when I thought I found the right one I called them and asked for the names of the attorneys that they would contact to represent me if I were involved in a self defense shooting situation. They were able to provide me with only a single name. When I googled that attorney, I found he was a bankruptcy attorney cleaning extensive experience in wills and trusts. Not a single mention of any criminal defense background or training. Needless to say I did not sign up with that national firm. But based on the above comments I will be looking into Armed Citizens Defense Network, Inc.
