The Second Amendment in Focus

Monday, November 15 at 6 p.m.- Student Center Auditorium

Guests will include Kayne Robinson, former president of the National Rifle Association. Other speakers yet to be determined will include supporters of control measures. Few issues in Illinois are as divisive as ones involving guns. We'll explore these questions to see if there is a middle ground in the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court decision involving Chicago ordinances.

Nice that the opposition is willing to sit down at the table and have an adult conversation instead of flaming headlines all over heck and back.

It ain't happened yet!! Watch for the "die outs" on the lawn or some other maudlin demonstrations before and during the meeting. I'm not sure they can have an "adult converstation". They don't qualify.

I'm hoping you are wrong about the reaction to this meeting discussing the Second Amendment. I was encouraged by the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute's (at SIU) poll this year of Southern Illinoisans regarding LTC legislation. It was worded in a fairly neutral way and found the majority of folks here supported or strongly supported LTC legislation for Illinois.

in my opinion there is no middle ground..

But thats just me..

Well the middle ground will be having to pay dollars, get training and aquire a piece of paper that says we can exercise the right to bear arms. Kind of like the FOID is now with regards to keep. So we're compromising right off the bat and the very thing we are campaigning for is unconstitutional in and of itself. Ironic hu?

I sincerely hope that I'm wrong too! But, the announcement says "Other speakers yet to be determined will include supporters of control measures. " Since it doesn't say "current control measures" then I assume that they're talking about ADDITIONAL control measures. Make a list of the current control measures in place and tell me what more can they logically want?? It appears that we have "compromised" sufficiently on controls. Now it's time for them to compromise on their demands. And, as Drylok says, all that control over a "basic, fundamental right".
