Kahr PM9

Looking for comments from those who have experience with this gun. I like the MA compliant model (9193) because of the external safety. Kahr seems to be the high end of pocket pistols. Is the price justified? Any suggestions for a similar gun? I have a Beretta PX4 Storm in my console, but its a little too big for me to CCW, at least in summer clothes.

Can't help you on the Kahr but I might be able to with the Beretta. Have you checked out the RIGGS Ranger Pants? The flap on the cargo pocket is about a third of the way up the inside pant pocket and really helps break up the outline. If you're ever in a concealed carry state Cabela's, try them on with the PX4 in your pocket and see it works. I'm totally sold on them and as my other jeans wear out, this is what they get replaced with.

Edited: It's not just my opinion, check out the reviews.

The Kahr PM9 is the best pocket pistol made. I just spold mine to another Illinois Carry so I could change to Kahr is .45

The price is well worth it. I have to annually qualified with 30 rounds for my Concealed Carry npermit at 7, 10 and 15 yards and this year, just to show off, I used my PM0 and scored all 30 in the ten ring.

If you have the bucks, don't scimp, after all, you're buying it for self protection, hardly a time to go cheap.

I also had a Crimson Trace on mine. Pictured is my Kahr and my FNX, both replaced by .45s

Thanks for the tips guys. I plan on being in a Cabela in the near future and will check the pants out. As I think about the cost of a Kahr, if the quality is there it makes sense.

My PM9 looks just like the one in Bud's pic. Probably because I bought it from Bud about a week ago.

Its a great little pocket gun. Very high quality and totally reliable. I decided I wanted the smallest, most reliable, quality 9mm I could get for concealed carry and now I have it.shot it some every day and the more I shoot it, the more I like it. I'm going to get a crossbreed mini-tuck holster for it next.

Be warned that the Kahr PM9 does have a reputation as a glitchy gun. I personally love it, but for those planning to use it as their primary carry weapon, a quick google search, or a search of Youtube for Kahr problems will reveal multiple failure to feed, failure to eject, etc. problems. It seems these problems exist in about 40% or the earliest PM9's and in abotu 25% of Kahrs manufactured after 2008. The PM40 and PM45 are even more glitchy, owed primarily to the fact that the design simply piggy backs off a frame that was R&D tested for the parabellum round.

Seems like the folks at Kahr are a good group and I have read statements to the point that such a small package will invariably have very little room for variance. They take weapons back readily and perform repairs without complaint. There are also many 3rd party gunsmiths out there that are experienced in resolving some of the slide and ejector issues with the Kahr's, often more adeptly than the manufacturer itself...and for a cost of less than $50-75. Not much to pay for a substantially higher peace of mind.

Be informed that a new version of the Kahr PM9 was released 3 weeks ago - October 1. This version is said to have resolved many of the current issues being experienced by PM9 owners. You can identify the new Kahr, PM-9093 by it's new design - with a beveled front end. Manufacturer's cost to dealers has gone up $15 to $20, depending on volume, so this will be reflected in your purchase price. Online, the new Kahr's should be available in the $630 range for low, and at your local gunshop, it will be closer to $780 plus tax. Good luck and happy shooting.

I've been shooting mine almost every day with 3 different kinds of ammo so far and not a single malfxn yet. My carry/SD ammo is Federal premium HydraShok 124gr. The winchester white box and American Eagle brands for practice and plinking have also worked just fine. I have enough rounds thru it that I can say I'm confident in the reliability of the little gun.

Well I have been accused of "blowing smoke" in some of the other forums by people who have searched this forum. I do not want to be perceived as spreading mis-information. Thus I here post two pictures (not my own) of the older kahr (the smaller picture with the green outline) and someone's newer picture of the Oct 1, 2010 Kahr. Please do your own comparison. The slide lock mechanism is different - dovetails to an end on the newer PM9, but stays sharp and angled on the older one. The barrel protrudes from the front of the polymer frame further in the newer one - about .2 inches longer. Notice how the barrel disappears on the newer PM9, but is still visible, protruding from the slide on the older model. The front sight sits just slightly further as well on the newer model, creating a slightly greater distance between the front and rear sights and slightly better shooting as a result. The slide lock marker on the bottom of the barrel..the engraved vertical mark, is just below the "9" on the newer "PM9" logo, but sits farther to the right of the "PM9" logo on the older model. This most clearly illustrates the difference in barrel length between the two pistols. the additional metal will create length and weight differences. I can't prove this, but in my opinion, the spring on the newer Kahr 'feels' tighter and is harder to rack. Haven't shot the new one yet, but hopefully the majority of problems will be resolved. Do your research. Buy a gun that you will still be able to get parts for. (Parts specifically made for YOUR model/version, not parts similar or 'close to). Get the best deal you can. Kahrs are great pistols and I bet they are just making them better as time goes on!

I have shot the new one ( I own the new one) and old one (A friend of mine owns the old one). They both have around the same round count. I can say the new one has a tighter spring and is harder to "rack".

I too ahve found that with the new Kahrs, it's noticeably harder to rack back the slide. When you use the slide release to chamber a round, the snap is louder and more positive. It is my opinion (and only an opinion) that this was done to address the ftf problems Kahr's had in the past. Now I didn't break them down and compare the springs, but I have to imagine that with ANY difference in slide length, the springs can no longer be interchangeable with the older Kahr's.

The new Kahr is MUCH smoother in and out of a draw. The front is beveled, as is the slide stop lever. The old Kahr's slide stop is squared at the rear, where the new one is rounded and angles down into the gun. These improvements mean they are a lot less likely to get snagged in a pocket.

I have an MK9. I was having serious issues with premature slide lock but I finally tracked down the problem with the slide lock spring, it wasn't holding the lock down firmly enough and so it would bounce up with the recoil and catch the slide. I'm still not as accurate as I'd like to be with it, I don't have as much patience with handgun marksmanship as I do rifles.

You might also consider the new Boberg. It's not out yet and of course it's a completely new design, as of yet untested in the market, but it looks very interesting...

After getting a Crossbreed SuperTuck for my glock 23 (and liking it a lot) I have ordered a MiniTuck for the PM9. I've tried the pocket carry thing with the DeSantis Nemesis but different pants and jeans have different pockets and some work sorta OK and some don't work at all for me.

The Crossbreed SuperTuck is extremely good so I'm expecting great satisfaction from the Mini. and they give a 10% NRA discount.
