ilphil Posted January 31, 2009 at 12:43 AM Posted January 31, 2009 at 12:43 AM My daughter is 19. She could walk in to a gun shop and buy her own shotgun or rifle and ammo. But if she gains access to one of my guns without my express permission they want to be able to revoke my FOID??? Am I missing something here?????

What strikes me as even more bizarre is that the way I read it, if you do give her permission, you're clear(!)

What strikes me as even more bizarre is that the way I read it, if you do give her permission, you're clear(!) That's how I read it too. Sounds more like a "punish parents who can't control their kids" law than a typical gun law.
45superman Posted January 31, 2009 at 02:42 AM Author Posted January 31, 2009 at 02:42 AM There were a couple similar bills (one in the House and one in the Senate, I believe) last year. I don't see this as a priority of theirs--but we of course have to keep an eye on it.

I don't see this as a priority of theirs--but we of course have to keep an eye on it. You are right. I remember having this same discussion about how stupid it was then too. The logic just totally escapes me. At 18 your are legally an adult for most purposes other than drinking and buying a handgun. Since so many younger voters supposedly went to the polls in the recent election I wonder how the anti's would feel if these kids started voting against the politicians that keep passing laws treating them like children???
45superman Posted January 31, 2009 at 09:54 AM Author Posted January 31, 2009 at 09:54 AM I just noticed that this bill was introduced by one of the Senate newcomers, Heather Steans. Showing her colors already. On the bright side, she replaced Carol Ronen, who was very anti-gun, so we probably didn't lose any ground there.
