PPK Posted January 18, 2009 at 12:53 AM Posted January 18, 2009 at 12:53 AM http://www.maine.gov/dps/msp/licenses/weapons_permits.html From what little research I've done so far, Maine is a shall issue state. I thought about getting one but it's been probably 15 years since I've been there and not much reason to go back. Really don't have the $60.00 to throw away.
Kenny Posted January 18, 2009 at 01:10 AM Posted January 18, 2009 at 01:10 AM Someone should probably make this a sticky.

M wife and I will be getting ours shortly. We have Utah and Florida and are processing NH and PA first. The Maine paperwork is 10 pages and require quite a bit of supporting information to go with it, such as safety training (your training from Florida works here) a Birth certificate and a few other intersting bits. Our daughter, son-in-law and first grand-baby live there, otherwise we would not likel persue it. John
cherryriver Posted January 21, 2009 at 02:50 PM Posted January 21, 2009 at 02:50 PM While there's little to argue that finances can be a deciding factor, there's another side to the question of getting more permits. The more permits there are out there, the larger the numbers available for argument in favor of citizen carry. The more permitholders there are abroad not committing crimes runs the numbers in a favorable direction. If there were 80 million permit holders nationally (sorry, Alaska and Vermont), instead of the ten or twenty million it is (I forget), it would carry more political weight among those who count votes before they consider Constitutionality or common sense.

I may go for it after I get NH and UT. :Drunk emoticon:

Beezil Posted February 4, 2009 at 05:16 PM Posted February 4, 2009 at 05:16 PM Well, as of 2-4-09 my application is in the mail. Maine says it takes sixty days to process an application. Maine is certainly easy enough to do. The only gotcha for most folks interested in obtaining non-res permits is Maine's requirement to show proof of knowledge of handgun safety. I used the certificate I recieved when I took the Jack Manfre Florida class at Midwest last year. Jack is a certified NRA instructor, and the certificate fufills the requirement. I do not know if Illinois Hunter Safety would suffice. I will place a call and see if I can get an answer. The coversheet to the application specifically mentions HANDGUN not firearm or hunting related training, but perhaps they may be treated as one-in-the-same? The application itself is simple and includes two authority-to-release forms, a witness signature, copies of other conceal carry permits, copy of birth certificate (not aware if passprt is accepted) a 2x2 passport photo and a check for 60 dollars. no fingerprint cards are required.
