Blaster Posted March 21, 2005 at 02:35 AM Share Posted March 21, 2005 at 02:35 AM Here is a list of the Rep's that voted for the Willmette bill that overrode the Gov's veto. We need all of these folks to vote with us on the CCW bills. I have them color coded so we know where to concentrate our efforts. Also we need to get some Letters in the mail. I think these will have more of an impact. Here is a link to the members of the house you can get addresses there Link to members Feel free to post this on any other CCW forum. 45superman Posted March 21, 2005 at 02:57 AM Share Posted March 21, 2005 at 02:57 AM Wow...that was a lot of work. Nice going! I can figure out what the green, yellow, and orange text mean, but what about the white? Does that just mean that there's not enough of a voting record on that person's part to make an evaluation with regard to gun rights? Anyway, thanks for the good work! Blaster Posted March 21, 2005 at 03:10 AM Author Share Posted March 21, 2005 at 03:10 AM Right, no color indecates no voting record. It took a little time but now everyone can start the battle for CCW in the house.

45superman Posted March 21, 2005 at 02:59 PM Share Posted March 21, 2005 at 02:59 PM The Senate CCW bills have been sent to Rules, where they will probably die and rot (although I'm too stubborn to completely give up on them yet). The House versions of the same bills have passed through committee, and so still have a good chance (although the antis have attached a home rule note to them, so they require a 3/5 majority instead of a simple majority in order to pass). I believe these are the bills to which he refers. They will need some real help to get the 3/5 majority, so we need to spend this recess time to our advantage, and make a lot of noise. EDIT: Earlier, I said "preemption note," when I actually meant "home rule note." Sorry for the confusion.
45superman Posted March 21, 2005 at 03:07 PM Share Posted March 21, 2005 at 03:07 PM Blaster--I have a strategy question. Emailing everybody on the list is easy enough, but calls and snail mails are probably going to be tough to manage for the entire list. Do you think we can safely not bother with the ones in green, and trust them to do the right thing without a lot of pushing, thus allowing us to concentrate on the yellow, orange, and white (unrated) ones? Second idea: what do you think of splitting the list up, and individual forum members can volunteer to take responsibility to get the word out to those Reps on their individual segment of the list? That way we can cover everybody that would benefit from being talked to. If we have enough volunteers to hit some or all of them more than once, so much the better. mack69 Posted March 21, 2005 at 03:22 PM Share Posted March 21, 2005 at 03:22 PM 460, sounds reasonable except for the fact of the audience we are addressing. My thought is that even though they may have voted for us in the past, we need to keep up the pressure for them to continue to vote with us. Maybe changing up their messages by adding a thank you for their previous support. It's alot of work but not something I think we should let slide....just my nickels worth....mack
Lou Posted March 21, 2005 at 03:59 PM Share Posted March 21, 2005 at 03:59 PM Looking at the color code and the area codes, it's pretty evident that this is a regional issue as opposed to a Republican/Democratic issue.
45superman Posted March 21, 2005 at 04:06 PM Share Posted March 21, 2005 at 04:06 PM Mack, point taken, and I wasn't suggesting we entirely ignore the names in green--as I said, emailing all of them would be easy enough. But Blaster's list (Reps who voted "Yea" to override Rod's veto of the Wilmette bill--which, by the way, I think was a great idea on his part as a way to isolate names as a starting point for identifying Reps we can potentially win over) is about 85 names long. That's a whole lot of snail mail and phone calls. If we want to do the full court press on all of them, I'd think we'd almost have to divide the list up among forum members. My concern is that some will be so daunted by the sheer length of the list that they'll not get around to writing or calling any of them.

SmershAgent Posted March 21, 2005 at 05:38 PM Share Posted March 21, 2005 at 05:38 PM I think 460Rowland is definitely onto something. All of these legislators (even the green guys) need to hear from us. If we divide the list into manageable blocks and each take responsbility for a few, we can be guaranteed they'll all get the proper attention. I went ahead and broke the list into groups of 10 names (the last group has 11). A red X indicates the person has been contacted. It would be even more ideal if we get enough people to sign up that we can "double team" some of the groups to make an even greater impact. I'll start by volunteering to handle Group 9. 45superman Posted March 21, 2005 at 06:46 PM Share Posted March 21, 2005 at 06:46 PM By the way, in talking to (or writing) these Reps, it might be good to mention their "Yea" vote on the override of Rod's veto of the Wilmette, bill--something along the lines of "Your vote to override Governor Blagojevich's veto of the Wilmette bill last November would seem to indicate that you are in favor of the citizens of Illinois having the means to defend themselves." This does several things: A) Provides an opportunity to thank them for a favorable move in the past, Lets them know you're keeping a close eye on what happens in the legislature, and C) Illustrates how voting for passage of the bills would be consistent with a previous vote of theirs. Blaster Posted March 21, 2005 at 10:20 PM Author Share Posted March 21, 2005 at 10:20 PM Good idea splitting up into groups. I will leave the BIG list up so those stopping by the forum can contact who they want. I hope alot of people at least email the above Rep's. Also someone could print out the list and make the phone calls as they have time thru the day. When I talked to Sen. Rutherford this weekend he said the snail mail letters are taken more seriously. He said he gets hundreds of emails a day. If you have an idea that will help advance concealed carry, you dont have to get my permission. This is everyones forum, throw the idea out and see what happens with it.

45superman Posted March 22, 2005 at 10:19 PM Share Posted March 22, 2005 at 10:19 PM I'll send a letter to all who have yet to be spoken for and send one for good measure to all those who have been. How's that~! Awesome! You're brand new, and already an inspiration to the rest of us. Earlier in the thread, SmershAgent offered to help subsidize postage--with the number of letters you'll be sending out, the least I can do is make the same offer. Send me a private message if that would be useful to you. Anybody else? One or two letters and phone calls per Rep is good, but more is better. Blaster Posted March 22, 2005 at 10:28 PM Author Share Posted March 22, 2005 at 10:28 PM Pistolpackinmama you have a lot of work cut out for you. Come on folks I know there is some more people out there that can print out a letter and send it to 10 Rep's. This needs to be done if we are going to make any kind of statement about how dedicated we are about getting concealed carry in Illinois. PM SmershAgent or Blaster and let us know what group you want.

Blaster Posted March 22, 2005 at 11:31 PM Author Share Posted March 22, 2005 at 11:31 PM They are members of the Illinois General Assembly. The House and Senate make up the General Assembly. They represent people from different districts around Illinois. The group we are targeting is a group that voted to over ride the veto on the Willmette bill. This is the bill that allows a person to defend themselves even though the city they live in outlaws handguns or firearms.
SmershAgent Posted March 22, 2005 at 11:31 PM Share Posted March 22, 2005 at 11:31 PM Hey, question here!I was talking to a friend and was telling him about all the people I was going to contact regarding the legislation......and he looked on the site here and was wondering who all these people are (who do they represent, etc.) I don't know squat about politics obviously Thanks The state of Illinois is divided into 118 Representative Districts and 59 Senate Districts. Where you live geographically determines which districts you fall under. Each district elects a Senator and Representative to represent them in Springfield. Since each citizen only has 1 Senator and 1 Representative, obviously most of the letters you send will be to elected officials outside your own district. Regardless, it's still important that they be contacted by as many people as possible. Second Amendment policy in this state is a regional, not a partisan, issue. Legislators from the city of Chicago (mostly Democrats) and the immendiate suburbs (mostly Republcians) tend to favor extremely restrictive gun control measures. Legislators from the rest of the state, regardless of their party affiliations, have a much healthier respect for our rights. Many of the most outspoken Second Amendment advocates in the House right now are Democrats.
