Appleseed Event July 14-15 at Sparta, IL sponsored by Cabela's. This is the best rifle marksmanship training you can get for your money hands down. KIds and women welcome. We had a six year old boy doing a great job at Clinton two weeks ago. He almost outshot his 8 yr old brother. Bring your .22 rifle and 400 to 500 rounds of ammo. Bring your centerfire rifle if you want. If you earn a rifleman patch you may be able to fire on the 200 yard range. It makes no difference if you are a beginner or expert, you will learn something new. Our local sherriff came out at Clinton and he thought he was a great shot. He left a lot better shot and said he's going to send some of his deputies to the next Appleseed. Come on out and earn yor Rifleman patch. They can't be bought, they must be earned. Great bragging right too.

Thanks for the Update Bowfisher and the link to IllinoisCarry

I will be attending as an Instructor. I've been considering bringing my Garand and new M-1 Carbine. I thought Attendees could "get a feel" for the great CMP Program Certificate they can receive and the quality of Historical Firearms they can order. Would anyone be interested?

This is a great opportunity for the kidlets and new Rifle Users to receive exposure to Safety, History and Marksmanship. As well as have fun!

This should be a great event and I am very greatful for this Board. I've already been surfing quite a bit and learning.

Hope to see you there!

Cabela's will be sponsoring for those attending the July Sparta Shoot:

All the water they can drink

Eye Protection

Ear protection

Hats

Rifle cases (fabric or nylon with handles type, not the hard plastic cases)

There might be more "Goodies", however the fun and History is the great part IMO.

"Glenda the Garand" will be there with her newly glassed stock, replaced safety, and corrected front site - basically she hasn't had plastic surgery, but is at her CMP National Match Rifle status with the final tweaking completed.

Anyone who might need to borrow a sling or swivels, let me know. Directions can be found here.

Hey Bowfisher - here are your photos! Why didn't you tell me about the Cow Killers? I guess that was balanced by the delivered lunch and free Frozen Fruit Bars! (okay they were popsicles, but I can't ever spell that word )

Just a bump for those looking for a Weekend of Community Involvement :P :

Sparta, Illinois : "Veteran's Day Project Appleseed Clinic" - Honoring our Nations Original Veterans. This Weekend is sponsored by Whitetails Unlimited Red Bud Chapter "Rack Attack". They've donated monies toward Lunch for the first 30 Attendees on Saturday and a few helpful items on the line. I am incredibly thankful to the Board for returning resources on a local level to increase Safety, Community awareness of the importance of the 2nd Amendment, and the joy of Marksmanship.

We currently have 20 individuals signed up, with 20 spots left.

If anyone south of 64, or willing to travel a little, is looking for the opportunity to BZO their .22 (or Centerfire if you can afford the ammo), re-familiarize yourself with sling usage, IMC, NPOA, and transitioning - this is an opportunity to do so among like minded folks.

This also is an excellent opportunity to have those with limited experience to become more familiar with what exactly their rifles can do and reinforce safety among those needing introduction to the topic. Trust me, after 2 7 hour days - I have the privilege of seeing great improvement from ages 8 to 80.

2012 is the last year that Women and Youth shoot for "free" (evenbrite does charge a $10 and $5 processing fee). LEO, Elected Officials, Active Duty Military, National Guard/Reserve also shoot free. If you know any Elected Official who is still "on the fence" about how important our Community is - send them my way!

Hope to see a few of you there -

F/U: Rosebud, MO will be having a clinic later in the Month ( Nov 24-25) for a KD on Sunday following the Saturday standard Clinic for those who qualify as Rifleman. This is an opportunity to apply your skills to 400 meters on a private farm location. Bring out the Centerfire and see how BZO @ 25 meters translates to longer distances.

It's a bit of a hike over, but I quite enjoyed the event last year.

For more specific location information, see here.
