If kept properly ammo will not go bad. I have found that a cheap desiccant can be made to keep in your ammo cans if you don't already have a controlled safe, or space for ammo storage in your safe. I put rice on a cookie sheet for 1 hr in the oven at 200 degrees. I then drop the rice into an old ammo box or paper bag and store that in the can with the ammo. Keep the ammo in a cool place (like a basement) and it will keep for a long time.
pyre400 Posted July 6, 2009 at 02:39 AM Author Posted July 6, 2009 at 02:39 AM As of noon today @ Oswego Less rifle ammo but still 1 box of WWB 45gr 223, and 4 boxes federal value pk 55gr 223 (100rd). Remington 223 also 1 box of 357 4 boxes of 550 rem 22 12-14 boxes of WWB 9mm 115gr 3 boxes of cci blazer in 9mm 115gr
templar223 Posted July 6, 2009 at 09:06 PM Posted July 6, 2009 at 09:06 PM It "feels" like the handgun calibers are coming back in stock at Wal-Mart as I've seen a *bit* more lately. Actually managed to purchase a few hundred rounds too. That of course is subject to change at a moment's notice should something happen. John
THE KING Posted July 9, 2009 at 08:41 PM Posted July 9, 2009 at 08:41 PM I was just at the WalMart in Bourbonnais, .223 in stock and that is it !! Can't even find the .22LR in the bulk packs of 550 anymore
pyre400 Posted July 10, 2009 at 03:13 AM Author Posted July 10, 2009 at 03:13 AM LOL yea, those federals come in by the cases and they are gone within a week. Since 223 was nowhere to be found everybody jumped on the 22 bandwagon... now everyone has 223 and 22 is nowhere to be found. I was kicking my self a while back for not stocking up on the fed vpk... I've learned my lesson. There are some remington value packs at oswego but its been my experience that rem's bulk 22 is horse sh!t. YMMV Fed bulk is definitely the best show in town if you can find it. Problem is that walmart is the only place I've seen it, and they are usually sold out.
MARKHOLSTRUM Posted July 10, 2009 at 02:13 PM Posted July 10, 2009 at 02:13 PM I have not done very much shooting in the last year because of this(that and I am doing other things that take up my time).... I dont want to be out when SHTF
pyre400 Posted July 10, 2009 at 04:37 PM Author Posted July 10, 2009 at 04:37 PM I have not done very much shooting in the last year because of this(that and I am doing other things that take up my time).... I dont want to be out when SHTF I think we all got each other's backs. Chances are if SHTF one man and a 1000 guns and 20,000 rounds is not going to stand up to a mob with a 1000 guns and 10,000 rounds. IT becomes easier to survive when you specialize and pool together. I bet if the SHTF though, we'd find a lot of the ICHV/Brady trolls who have been in our ranks - really quick. They'd all be in Loves Park looking for an icecream truck and a range. As for the shooting thats really what set me off. I hate buying more range ammo than I have to... Its bad enough that obamanomics has made us all poor, it has also driven prices up and limited my range days to 1 per month. Finding ammo at a relatively fair price became a personal obsession for me. There is a lot of ammo out there now, its always coming in, you just have to really want it.
MARKHOLSTRUM Posted July 10, 2009 at 04:53 PM Posted July 10, 2009 at 04:53 PM I reload for almost everything I shoot anyway but I dont want to push it as far as running out of primers (which seems to be the worst) I can but usually dont load for 9mm since the ammo was about the same as reloading (not worth the time)....I always load for my .45 plinking($16 per box my @$$).....and I always load for my rifle since I hate factory ammo anyways (plus I'm not paying what they want for a 20 rd box).....I have just been playin' it safe....I even have a few bulk packs of 22 set back.

It may not be great for self defense but it is sure economical for hunting food. Also the report from a 22 will not advertise your presence to hostiles, scavengers, or squatters etc (especially if using subs). I don't reload because I purchase with one of the primary factors being the cost of ammo. That being said, 9mm has been a disappointment since obama - It has given me a new perspective on things. There is something to be said for less common calibers though. When times are good you can find it but at a greater cost. When times are bad you can find it and its relatively the same cost.If you are using a common caliber you become, to a greater degree, exposed to supply/demand/cost fluctuation. The positive side of having common calibers is that you can buy low and sell high (as a currency/barter tool of sorts).
MARKHOLSTRUM Posted July 10, 2009 at 05:58 PM Posted July 10, 2009 at 05:58 PM yeah I hear ya....right now if I had a 40sw I would have a 357 sig barrel around since ammo is probobly still out there.
