Below are some sample letters that everyone who wants may feel free to use. These are what we need to send to the yellow and orange legislators regarding Rod's vetoes of SB0340 and SB2104. There are 4 unique versions of the letter; the one you use depends on how the recipient voted for the bills initially. Use and revise these however you see fit.

The important thing is that we destroy a small forest over the next 3 months putting the pressure on these guys. This is our final chance to snatch a moderate victory from the jaws of defeat.

To Senators/Reps who voted YES on both bills -

Representative/Senator _______:

I’d like to extend my heartfelt gratitude for the votes you cast this spring in favor of HB0340, which will eliminate the waiting period for individuals who trade one firearm for another, and SB2104, which establishes statewide standards for the lawful transportation of firearms. Unfortunately, Governor Blagojevich chose to veto both bills, despite the widespread support they received from the General Assembly and law-abiding gun owners.

Contrary to the Governor’s claims, these bills will not exacerbate violence or crime, as criminals who wish to use guns for nefarious purposes already ignore the state’s numerous firearms laws. This legislation will have a positive impact on thousands of honest citizens who wish to exercise their Second Amendment rights for legitimate purposes.

I would appreciate your voting to override the vetoes on HB0340 and SB2104 this fall. Please feel free to contact me if you wish to discuss these issues in more detail.

Sincerely,

Your Name

To Senators/Reps who vote YES on HB0340 and NO on SB2104 -

Representative/Senator_____:

Please accept my thanks for voting in favor of HB0340 earlier this year. This bill would allow law-abiding gun owners to trade one firearm for another without being subject to a waiting period. While I appreciate your vote in support of this measure, I was disappointed that you voted against SB2104, which establishes a statewide standard for the lawful transportation of firearms. This bill will help protect honest gun owners from inadvertently violating the complicated regulations of many municipalities when they travel. It is a badly needed reform.

Contrary to the Governor’s claims, these bills will not exacerbate violence or crime, as criminals who wish to use guns for nefarious purposes already ignore the state’s numerous firearms laws. This legislation will have a positive impact on thousands of peaceful citizens who wish to exercise their Second Amendment rights for legitimate purposes.

To Senators/Reps who voted NO on HB0340 and YES on SB2104 -

Representative/Senator_______:

Thank you for voting in favor of SB2104, which establishes a statewide standard for the lawful transportation of firearms. As a gun owner, I find it frustrating having to keep track of dozens of complicated municipal restrictions when I travel simply to ensure that I don’t inadvertently break the law.

However, I was disappointed that you voted against HB0340, which will allow law-abiding gun owners to trade one firearm for another without being subject to a waiting period. Requiring an individual who already has posession of a firearm to wait 3 days simply to exchange it for a different one does not make sense. It is a needless restriction that does nothing to curtail criminal misuse of guns.

SB2104 will help protect honest gun owners from inadvertently breaking the law when they travel. I find it frustrating having to keep track of dozens of complicated municipal regulations whenever I transport a firearm through Illinois. The establishment of a uniform state standard is a badly needed reform.

Unfortunately, Governor Blagojevich chose to veto both SB2104 and HB0340, despite the widespread support they received from the General Assembly and law-abiding gun owners.
