Looks like the ICPGV may have received some cash from the Joyce foundation, with the updated website Dear Friend, Our efforts to pass sensible gun laws in Illinois have reached a critical mass. With approximately 12 days left in the regular legislative session, the campaign is focused on the passage of four important bills. Please help us at this critical moment! Make your voice heard. Take action by: Calling or writing a state representative!Go to: http://www.icpgv.org/toolkit.html#state Writing a letter-to-the-editor to the Springfield State Journal-Register! Go to: http://www.icpgv.org/toolkit.html#leted Anyone want to go behind enemy lines and make the call below. I wonder how many they get to go.Joining us in Springfield to lobby for these bills!Call: 773/885-2726 The four bills the campaign is focused on are: SB 1007: This bill would prohibit the manufacture, sale, purchase, and possession of any large capacity ammunition feeding device, like the one purportedly used in the Virginia Tech shootings. The bill is being heard in committee on Wednesday, May 23rd at 10:00 AM. SB 940: This bill would require Illinois hospitals and mental health facilities to supply records to the Illinois State Police and would require the state to submit records to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System. This bill passed the Senate last week and now goes to the House for consideration. HB 758: This bill would require background checks on private handgun transfers and close the last loophole in obtaining a handgun. Background checks are only required now if you purchase a handgun at a gun shop and gun show. HB 1696: This bill would require FOID card holders to report the loss or theft of their firearms to law enforcement. This common sense measure is widely supported, even by a large majority of gun owners. The following state representatives continue to be unduly influenced by the NRA. Please contact them and tell them you're a voter, a constituent or resident of the state, and they should support these bills! Representative Patricia R. Federal Farmer Posted May 23, 2007 at 04:23 AM Posted May 23, 2007 at 04:23 AM sent my letters:Dear Representative <name>, Whenever I see a bill labeled a "Common Sense Gun Law" I know that it is only so labeled because it is unproven and unlikely to achieve the results promised. This has been proven time and again both in the US and abroad. What is the difference if a murder has 2 15-round magazines or 3 10-round magazines? Frankly, even Senator Kotowski admits that we can't stop criminals from getting guns. We know they disobey all of the laws designed to prevent them getting guns. But I wonder, why would they choose to obey a ban on so-called high capacity magazines? I think all Illinois legislators should be made aware that there is a growing grass-roots gun rights movement in this state that is not misled by "feel good" legislation. Thank you for your time,<name, address, etc>
Federal Farmer Posted May 23, 2007 at 04:27 AM Posted May 23, 2007 at 04:27 AM Robert Rita's email address is no good. Also, they spelled Dan Brady's name wrong (Don) so don't cut-paste and make that mistake. I wonder how many of them will do that.
