This is the thread to talk about the upcoming schedule and current and past shoots. For those who do not know what the Combat Shoot is, it is an informal handgun competition. It is timed and a varied set of shoot/no shoot targets along the lines of IPSC competition. A holster is normally required and this is held indoors at the Maxons range at night in Des Plaines, IL. The strength of the Combat Shoot is the added stress of competition as well as having multiple targets that need to be engaged quickly and accurately. This adds a missing layer that is restricted at most ranges that force people to shoot at slow fire and static targets, not to mention working with a holster and speed reloads. September’s Match does not require a holster, so if you have a friend who is interested in trying this type of shooting and does not have a holster, invite them to attend. Our September Shoot will have 3-4 courses of fire to test your shooting skills. Starting positions will be anything from pulling your gun from a closed drawer or briefcase to picking your gun up off a table.Each course will require anywhere from a minimum of 6 rounds to probably 18 rounds to complete.

Maybe some who attend and enjoy them will go out and get involved in IDPA and IPSC. At any rate, they will become more proficient with their handguns, and learn to know their limitations.

I'll be at the next one! Man I was kicking myself all day at work after getting to work and realizing I left my shooting stuff at home.

It was my first time doing something like this. It was fun to shoot the stages, but it took a long time. There were about 40 people at this shoot. Since there are only two stages, there is a lot of waiting around. Between the two stages, I shot a total of 40 rounds in about 45 secs. With all the shooters, the event lasted 3.5 hrs. So, 45 secs of shooting and 3.49 hrs of waiting. I heard last year they were doing the stages twice because they had extra time, unfortunately that did not happen for this event.

I'm all for the instructors getting in on the fun but I don't think their scores should be added because it really messes things up for the lesser accomplished shooters.I did attend one of the instructor's introduction to handgun classes and though more expensive it was very worth while, two evenings of these combat style shoots with only five people on the range (oops, now that word is out)!

The rest of the year, forget about it. Last event of last year there were about 35 people there. It does get pretty darn crowded in those 2 ranges.
