In the Senate we have a similar number of anti-gun bills.

SB-1848 is another dealer licensing scheme like HB-180. SB-1848 has been assigned to the Senate Criminal Law Committee.

SB-3036 is another semi-auto ban like HB-5751. SB-3036 has been assigned to the Senate Criminal Law Committee.

SB-3425 is a bill by Senator Kotowski that would mandate all semi-automatic handguns sold be outfitted with “mirco stamping” technology. The bill has not been assigned to a committee yet.

SB- 3632 and SB-3709 are bills by Senator Kotowski that ban private transfers of handguns in Illinois. All handgun transfers must take place at an FFL. The real implications of this are that the FFL will take control of the handgun, require a 4473 and the waiting period won’t start until the buyer does the paperwork. However, many of the FFLs in the metropolitan area have said the $10 fee doesn’t cover their costs of doing the paper work. So you can add a new tax on the transfer of that handgun you wanted to sell or trade to your neighbor as well. These bills also have the “gang” provision of HB-6132 included in them. This appears to be an attempt to force senators to choose between voting against a bad gun bill or voting against a bill aimed at “gangs”.

Other bills in the Senate are:

SB-2578 would allow military re-enactors to possess short barreled rifles.

SB-3292 would create a pilot program for right to carry in Peoria Illinois. The bill has not been assigned to a committee yet.

SB-3314 would allow corrections officers to carry firearms when off duty. The bill has not been assigned to a committee yet.

SB-3421 would allow for restoration of rights under the Gun Control Act of 1968. The bill has not been assigned to a committee yet.

SB-3510 would allow States Attorneys to carry concealed firearms. The bill has not been assigned to a committee yet.
