Are you planning additional courses of the "First Step" class too in the future? Or only the "Basic Pistol" one mentioned above? 4 hours driving and a 10 hour class makes for a pretty long day for me...

We will be having the first steps class while the basic class is going on. Either myself or my wife will willdo the first steps while one of us continues with the basic class. We willhave to know the make, model, and caliber of handgun you will be shooting so we can fill out the certificate of completion. I hope that clears things up. Also price is $50.00 for the first steps class. Boog

The NRA FIRST Steps Pistol Orientation — Firearm Instruction, Responsibility, and Safety Training — is the NRA’s response to the American public’s need for a firearm orientation program for new purchasers. NRA FIRST Steps Pistol is designed to provide a hands-on introduction to the safe handling and proper orientation to one specific pistol action type for classes of four or fewer students. This course is at least three hours long and includes classroom and range time learning to shoot a specific pistol action type. Students will learn the NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; the particular pistol model parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; cleaning the pistol; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, and FIRST Steps Course completion certificate.

(Lesson Plan 1995, revised 3/08)

i hope this explains the difference between the two classes. also in the basic class, we supply the firearm (.22 cal semi-auto) and ammo (about 50-100 rounds). in the first steps, you supply the handgun and ammo. and will shoot about 20 rounds. either class will qualify for florida ccw permit

Boog-- one of our other drivers is having gallbladder surgery next Tuesday depending on how long he is out will determine if I can have the time off to attend the basic pistol class. Have all the spots been filled yet or are there any openings still?

Boog- one of the other drivers had his gallbladder surgery and now he is going to be out for 6-8 weeks or longer. So I'll have to pass on the class for now. If you offer it again later this fall hopefully I can make it then.
  • 4 weeks later...
