anonymous too Posted November 27, 2006 at 02:40 PM Posted November 27, 2006 at 02:40 PM BLACKWATER ANNOUNCES PLANS FOR ITS’ NEWEST TRAINING FACILITY, “BLACKWATER NORTH” IN MOUNT CARROLL, IL Moyock, NC, November 27, 2006 – Already known around the globe as the leading provider of law enforcement, military, counterterrorism, and homeland security training, Blackwater today announces it’s plans to open it’s second world-class facility, “Blackwater North”, located 150 miles west of Chicago, in the rolling countryside of Mount Carroll, IL. The facility currently has seven flat ranges, one Known Distance (KD) Range, one Unknown Distance Range, one Climbing/Rappelling/Shooting Tower, and many other training areas. All the ranges on this 80-acre facility are now being refurbished and outfitted to meet the same high quality, realistic training that thousands of professionals now receive at Blackwater Training Center, the flagship in Camden County, NC. Jim Sierawski, Vice President for Training at Blackwater said, “Blackwater North now gives another option to law enforcement and military professionals in the Midwest and surrounding regions that can reduce total training cost but still give them the ultimate Blackwater experience.” Beginning in March 2007, Blackwater North will offer open enrollment courses, law enforcement and military courses, Bushmaster Weapons Courses, Heckler & Koch Weapons Courses, and Blackwater custom courses. Founded in 1997 by a former U. S. Navy SEAL, Blackwater was created from the belief that both the military and law enforcement communities would require additional capacity to train fully our brave men and women in and out of uniform to the standards required to keep the country secure. The Blackwater family of businesses includes Blackwater Training Center, Blackwater Security Consulting, Blackwater Canine, Blackwater Armor & Targets, Blackwater Logistics, Blackwater Airships, and Raven Development Group. Blackwater also has strategic partnerships with the Terrorism Research Center (www.terrorism.com) and Greystone Limited (www.greystone-ltd.com). templar223 Posted November 29, 2006 at 01:05 AM Posted November 29, 2006 at 01:05 AM Why oh why would BW take over the "Site" training facility... 1. The Site has nil facilities for students to overnight. One cleaning closet sized room. Oh, joy. Nearest hotel is about an hour away, or so I've been told. 2. Illinois has no Class III guns for private citizens or corps. Unless BW can get some creative paperwork from the feds for their guns & their people, it isn't going to work. Paperwork or not, I don't see them handing me a real M4 if I spend an arm and half a leg on one of their courses. 3. Illinois is poised to pass a ban on semi-auto guns next spring... Does BW plan to begin training it's contract employees with S&W wheelguns and Marlin lever-action rifles soon? Add to all of this Illinois very business-unfriendly climate and I'd say someone at BW made a boneheaded decision. That's my .02. John

I have no idea how they do that here.
SAK Posted November 29, 2006 at 02:39 AM Posted November 29, 2006 at 02:39 AM I've heard if you are a "seller" of class 3, you can own them in IL. Of course, you don't have to SELL to be a "seller" B(I I think this is how they get around this. There is a place right next door to The Site that has lodging. It has rooms and bunks and all of that. We ate lunch there every day when I took a pistol course there. Their classroom is kind of small, but still large enough for 20 or so. I'm sure contractors (mercenaries) will find a way to get around those pesky laws. They can do whatever they want in our war zones, why not in our peace zones?

45superman Posted November 29, 2006 at 03:37 AM Posted November 29, 2006 at 03:37 AM As private military contractors, I guess Blackwater could at least get around the Hughes Amendment to the FOPA by virtue of this: Both men also said they favored doing away with a 1986-passed cap on the number of fully automatic weapons available for sale. At that time, Congress limited the number of fully automatic guns - guns that will fire as long as the trigger is pressed - to those in circulation in 1986. Since then, the price of these limited weapons has gone up. However, civilian police forces are exempt from the cap, and recently Congress allowed certain military contractors to be exempt from the 1986 cap, too.I'd like to find out more details about that Congressional decision. I also don't know how they would get past the state laws regarding Class III weapons.
SAK Posted November 29, 2006 at 05:13 AM Posted November 29, 2006 at 05:13 AM often times it's only a matter of enforcement B(I

You have to have a Class III manufacturer's license. And you have to be present (as in "in person") when someone is renting said gun and even then you're on thin ice if the AG (our lovely friend Lisa Madigan) decides she wants to pick up some headlines in the MSM about confiscating machine guns "being rented to civilians" and making arrests to make our streets safer. Go to ar15.com for the specifics. John
