Attending Effingham County Board meeting where resolution proposed.

Most speakers were anti and obviously very poorly informed and poorly behaved.

Had one pro speaker who did a very good job and shared stats that anties didn't want to hear.

It passed with 8 ayes and 1 nay. Good County Board.

Which other counties have passed it?

This is how they roll. So tired of the very poorly informed and poorly behaved getting their way.

Sanctuary counties / cities is the perfect response if preemption gets no respect.

Next, let's demand the same level of government funding for gun safe purchases (if it saves one life) as gets spent for social programs like Planned Parenthood.

You can rest assured that if the issue was sanctuary for undocumented immigrants or MJ, they would be all for it.

Photos look like a packed crowd for a county board mtg at 4 pm on a Monday. Two stories

http://www.effinghamdailynews.com/news/local_news/effingham-county-now-a-sanctuary-for-gun-owners/article_325483da-d0cd-53dc-a983-61abf873834d.html

http://www.thexradio.com/news/78-local-news/33336-county-board-passes-resolution-regarding-sanctuary-county

..."The Effingham County Board Monday passed a resolution opposing certain bills introduced in the Illinois General Assembly that the Board views as violating the US Constitution. The resolution also resolves that if the State of Illinois infringes in the Board's view on 2nd Amendment rights, the county would become a "sanctuary county" for all firearms unconstitutionally prohibited by state government in that the county would prohibit its employees from enforcing those unconstitutional actions by the State.

A good-sized crowd was on hand Monday for the vote, with citizens present on each side of the issue. Some felt the resolution was spot on, while others felt the measure gave the county a black eye in the minds of some.

Dr. Michael Sehy asked the Board members whether they've talked with their kids about the issue. He said the proposal made him "sick a little". Sehy said his attendance at a First Communion ceremony and the site of the small children present made him think of Newtown and the many children killed in that incident.

Dan Niebrugge said, "I'm embarassed, I'm having a very difficult time explaining this" to those outside Effingham County.

John Cohorst contended, "allowing these guns to come in here, I'd feel guilty the rest of my life for letting them come in here."

On the other side of the issue, John Haslett said of the murders committed in the nation, a small number of those were with long guns. He said he's used A-R 15s without incident and encouraged those present to check the statistics on weapons before deciding on whether they should be banned.

Others in the audience were also supportive of the initiative but did not join in the public comment."...

How many of our members here are from the area?

I was born and raised in Effingham County, and have resided next door in Jasper for 18 years.

To use Dr. Sehy's words, "it makes me sick a little" to hear such drivel in south central Illinois. These people are rare as hen's teeth. I'm glad a few prominent folks have outed themselves so they can be treated as the outcasts they are.

Stupid comparison to muskets. Really, if they want me to carry around a Kentucky rifle, a pair of pistols, and a rapier in my belt, I guess I'm game. And a cannon mounted on my truck.

Sanctuary cities for illegal aliens exist to enrich cronies with cheap labor.

Sanctuary cities for MJ exist to make more leftocrats out of ordinary people.

That's why the left love them.

Now Sanctuary Gun cities - what cronies get enriched and how does it make more leftocrats? The answer is none for both. That's why the left doesn't want them.

The concern I have with this concept is that of the carve out it creates. If a few neighboring counties pass sanctuary status does it give their state representatives cover to horse trade on state level bills.

For example retired rep Phelps was nearly on his knees in the general assembly begging for money for a program that would help his communities and do little for anyone else. I could see an anti using that as leverage to pass some nonsense anti bill since they can say he's covered in his area even if it passes.

I was going to contact my county board (McHenry) until I read more about the board chairman. It would be worthless

http://www.nwherald.com/2018/02/23/mchenry-county-board-chairman-jack-franks-on-florida-shooting-we-have-to-act-before-its-too-late/a5xscbd/

It makes no sense to pay hundreds of billions of dollars for national defense while our citizens are being slaughtered, not in acts of war by foreign aggressors, but in schools, parks and movie theaters, Franks said. Gun owners need to be asked if they really need to own weapons that can quickly spit out hundreds of rounds for the sole purpose of killing people.

Judging from the picture the poorly behaved anti's looked like

Assuming they were overeducated SIU students turned townies that moved north for cheap living off social security?

The loudest, rudest anti was not in either picture. It was a "plump", older lady with fairly, long grayish white hair. In addition to spouting a lot of horribly misinformed, inaccurate stuff about guns; she went off on a tangent about the Board being against illegal immigrants and etc. She also kept interupting and interjecting her comments while others (especially pro gun speaker) were talking. County Board members had to tell her to not interupt multiple times and I kind of expected that the Sheriff might have to "escort" her outside. After the vote, she made a bunch of comments on her way out. Suspect that she truly needs some counseling with maybe an inpatient stay and appointed guardian.

Glad the progun speaker was calm, professional, and had his facts together.

Yeah, the majority of the anti’s are boomers. They long for the 1960’s/early 70’s days of protesting all over again.

That said, it’s not all boomers, just the leftist ones that want to feel young again lol

One anti speaker was an eye doctor. One was a pediatric oncologist (good guy, just pretty far left and wrong on this issue). At least one other anti had an advanced degrees too; but probably none of them actually know anything about guns and are horribly misinformed on this issue.

And that is the issue with the majority of intellectuals: they feel they know whats best for everyone. I have a pretty high IQ as well, but that doesnt give me the privilege to determine what is correct and what is wrong. Im reminded of this when dealing with the enlightened/highly educated left. Complete lack of common sense
