A teenager sent a photo of an airsoft gun to other passengers on a plane at San Francisco International Airport Thursday, prompting officials to remove every passenger from the plane, rescreen them and inspect the aircraft, an airport spokesman said.

United Airlines Flight 2167 from San Francisco to Orlando was getting ready to leave the gate when several passengers said they received a photo of an airsoft gun from another passenger via AirDrop, airport spokesman Doug Yakel said.

It was determined that the photo was taken at an earlier date and at a location not at an airport, Yakel said. The teen did not have the gun on him.

...

The teenager was not allowed to get back on the plane, Yakel said.

The story was originally reported by SFGate.

SFGate

A flight out of San Francisco International Airport was deboarded Thursday afternoon after an unruly teenage passenger's antics culminated in a threat being announced on the plane.

...

My Moms flight out of SFO was held on the tarmac because someone was airdropping inappropriate pictures to several passengers.

Why are people like this!?

"Unruly" ?

BTW, AirDrop is a peer-to-peer iPhone file transfer. So people got an unsolicited picture of a toy on their phones and panicked.

so if you have airdrop you can get pics etc. anytime from anyone?

I'm not an iPhone user, but I believe AirDrop comes with the phone and presumably there are permissions that control who can send and retrieve stuff on your phone. Judging from the story, the default is that anyone can do anything.

I wonder if he said anything along with the photo . . .

To get that reaction, I'd almost bet he texted

"BOOGIE BOOGIE BOOGIE" like that one scene in the cemetery from Porkys II.

(picture if you will, multiple pansies soiling themselves and crying while running for a safe space to get the good coloring books and blue-est colored crayons.)

It's settled then, San Fran is home to the most abject failures of those trying to be adults in the country. What a bunch of woosies.........if they breed and reproduce, we're doomed.

They already have and that is part of the problem.

Those are receipt settings.

I do not think you can “broadcast” air drops — don’t you have to actively select the recipients to send to?

Granted he could just select all those folks that are wide open….

AirDrop supposedly works over WiFi. The kid didn't know any of the people, so the receiver has to advertise, otherwise he wouldn't know where to send the picture. All the kid had to do is go down a list of "hotspots" and send over and over. Maybe it was drag and drop. (I'm still not an iPhone user.)

So he had to put a little work into it, but it was still a picture of a toy.

Imagine if it was child porn and if he didn't admit to sending it. That seems like a reason not to leave your iPhone open ("Everyone"), if you have one.

WiFi is not the issueâ¦. Theyâd all have to had been signed onto the same WiFi net.

The point is kid would have had to drop the pic to every recipient he could âseeâ. But thatâs not all â every recipient he dropped it to would have had to ACCEPT it.

Sooo, the snowflakes that got upset had their settings such that EVERYBODY can see their phone and then they chose to ACCEPT a pic from an unknown source and then they got upset over the pictureâ¦.
