FFL Dealers here at Illinois Carry

Up to this point, pre GDL, most of those charging $50 I have seen were more likely retail locations. It seemed like they were priced to discourage that service (yes, I realize the B&Ms have higher costs and why transfer a firearm that they may be stocking).

As such a $25 transfer fee from a home FFL is going to be inclined to get my business...but for those who have done business with Mike, there is more that goes into it for me than just the fee.

I dont mind supporting my local gun shop...too bad there are not many that meet the "local" definition. A $10 or $15 difference is one thing. A $60-$80+ difference + driving distance + multiple trips, I am probably going to pass on and go elsewhere.

Define reasonable " fees" considering the a** pounding in state fees and mandates that cost us money including an IL dedicated A&D book, mandated sales tracking software, heck I have to by law get f*cking ADT service.

Half the FFl's in the state have been forced out of business. BUT I can't wait for the "Damn FFL ripped me of charging 25 bucks for a transfer" BS threads.

I don't have an issue with $20/$25. It's the $40/$50 that I am not thrilled with.

I am not to thrilled with the 2 to 3 grand a year to keep my FFL ether. You will damn lucky if the fee is less than 50 bucks.

Where are you located? I need a new FFL. My guy wouldn’t put up with the state BS.

Even the home FFL's have to get the electronic monitoring. It's a dogshit pile of a law. For one thing they wrote the law as if there was only 2 types of FFL's. I am an 07 SOT yet I had to register at a home dealer. Now at first that seems great as you on the surface bypass all retail regulations. I was at the meeting with the ISP in Gurnee police Department so I received this information directly from the horses a**. In this new law it states "Any FFL that has inventory" has to comply with ALL the regulations. So on the surface while it seems home FFL's avoid all the insane costs, training requirements, signage custom made I might add, IL A&D book, A electronic A&D software, ADT monitoring etc even the HOME FFL's have to comply with all this bull****. heck the signs are designed right down to the size and type of font by law and have to be custom made. $88.00 for 2 signs made for me by marengo sign for me.

So in a nut shell home FFL's will have to pay and comply with all the same bull**** as retail outlets.

So your days of 25 transfers from a home FFL are friggin gone forever.

Harvard on the IL/WI border. I normally don't do it for strangers or the general public as I am an 07 SOT. So if you want to work with me you need to contact me well ahead. I had an a** ship a gun broker gun to me withough ever contacting me. He used the ATF website to get my info. Gun appeared, I was What the hey!!! is this and then he turned up at my door a few days later demanding his gun, refusing to pay a transfer fee etc. Gun went back to the sending FFL.

Yet another former customer of Mike looking for an FFL in the northwest, west, or north suburbs. I'd prefer to continue to use a small shop even if costs aren't what they used to be - I think it's important to support what's left of the infrastructure in the hope that better days lie ahead.

Try Done Wright Gun Repair in Crystal Lake. $25 for pistol.

I was just told they stopped doing FFL's in June. Nice small shop though.

I have been out of the game for several years on buying new stuff.   What is the normal FFL xfer fee currently?   Is there a difference between long gun and handgun?

The last time I did an online purchase the world was still normal - or at least not like this

Thanks everyone....

Monty80

👍

I did a transfer through him yesterday.  There were issues with shipping, NONE OF WHICH WERE MONTY80's fault, and he kept me up to date the entire time.  Great communication and he is a person who wants to help the customer.

A simple, easy transaction at a reasonable price.  For the Lake/McHenry county peeps, he is close and flexible.

I would recommend highly!
