Days after being deposed as Illinois House speaker, Michael Madigan has vacated his Springfield apartment, fueling speculation that he will resign the Illinois House seat he has held since 1971.

Madigan’s decision to vacate his apartment at Lincoln Towers was first reported by Mark Maxwell, a television reporter in Springfield.

Maxwell tweeted a picture of an open door at Lincoln Towers leading to a vacant apartment without a stick of furniture visible.

“Looking more and more like someone other than Michael Madigan will represent his district in Springfield for the first time in 50 years. Spotted staffers clearing out his apartment furniture today. No official resignation yet,” Maxwell tweeted.

Ding dong the wicked ------- is dead! I will not miss this crooked ding-a-ling. Let's all hope this is true. There is more than enough blame to go around for the destruction of this state but the brunt of it is pointed at this clown. He has never served the people for one day that I can remember only serving himself and his cronies.

Most of his power didn’t come from being Speaker....... Speaker/not speaker Representative/retired That’s all fairly meaningless in the grand scheme. Unless he steps down as Democratic Party Chairman in Illinois he’ll still control the purse strings.... And he who controls the purse strings wields the power.

Retire or not, he has spent decades installing his loyal cronies into every corner of Illinois government and every corner of Illinois business, he will remain the puppet master of Illinois politics and big business regardless of any office he holds.

Much ado about nothing. Retiring just means he can do MORE things behind the scenes, with no restrictions and retain power indefinitely.

Maybe heck has frozen over.
