Foid revocation and submission

I had my foid revoked 4 years ago for a voluntary stay in a hospital for mental health reasons. My question is with the extended delays for foid cards, should I have my dr fill out the "over five years " form now or wait until it's been 5 years and deal with the additional wait time?

imho if you submit prior to the 5 year mark then they can simply say no.

Not sure they would kind of put the dr report on file until your time comes up.

Wait for the required timeline and you are going to wait from that point forward.

If you don't wait the 5 years to file, you have to do a more extensive appeal along with a forensic mental health evaluation - usually very expensive. If it were me, I might wait.

I waited 5 years did "EVERYTHING".That was 2018.Never heard a word from ISP.spent the big bucks,the whole 9 yards.save your money,move!!!! you will never get a FOID.put this away & read in 5 years.tell me im wrong

You're assuming that your experience is the only possible outcome. In that assumption, you are wrong.

Have you submitted a request to the ISP director for administrative hearing?

Yea I get a lot of that.You know whats going on in Illinois,give people the truth.not some pie in the sky.I know retired police officers that can't get their FOID renewed.Your chances of getting a FOID with the word "mental" even mentioned cancels you out.Unless you are "connected"I know of several "connected" people,with "history" that would keep them from obtaining a FOID.But they know the right people.times over to make excuses for the most corrupt state in america.Its easy to sit there & say "Oh your wrong" Ive done going on 4 years of research on this.Now with the new administration.Party over.

If you want truth it isn't hard to find. Here's a direct response to your assertion from another thread. There are others that haven't been shared publicly.

 

I'm not sure what WolfCreek was saying the above.. but I will chime in on this.

 

back in 2008 I was convicted of a misdemeanor (I was 18 at the time), in the end I did get it expunged, how far back ISP can and will trace, this I am not sure. I was convicted for a non-violent crime, but it was me being stupid with a friend, accidentally shot out a window with a BB gun, friend's neighbors weren't happy.

 

Also, then back in 2012 I voluntarily admitted myself to the hospital due to a bad breakup, but because of this my existing FOID at the time got revoked and I had to turn in my firearm and ammo to my local PD.

 

later on in 2015 I believe, I tried to reapply for a FOID and of course was denied. Tried again in 2019 but was denied due to not seeing a medical examiner. I later tried again after doing so, which yes I paid him for an evaluation and a series of tests.

 

I resubmitted my appeal to ISP right after Christmas '19, then COVID hit. I got my FOID back to me I think it was in beginning-June '20. I then took a CCL class and submitted with prints end-July '20. I got my CCL mid-November '20.

A forensic mental health evaluation will likely run northwards of $1200 or more and is required if 5 years hasn't passed from the moment you submit the appeal. Your doctor alone cannot do it and this service is treated more like a legal service than it is a healthcare service. The remaining requirements are also far more stringent if you're under 5 years than if over. Basically you need to ask yourself if you want to just wait another year, or if the added money and effort is worth it. Of course that choice is yours to make alone...

Just wait the 5 years listen to molly. Very simple process. Do not listen to wolf creek. He comes on here talking bs all the time he doesn’t no about. Mine was simple and straight forward. Took 6 months to get Foid after appeal.
