What is the ISRA doing for me?

Membership for one year costs $25.00. You'll spend that much taking your significant other to the movies and buying snacks. There's no good reason for anyone who cares about the Bill of Rights not to be a member.

Once in a while ISRA gets a call or letter asking "What's the ISRA doing for me?" Here's a short list of how the ISRA is constantly working to protect the rights of ISRA members and gun owners across the state:

*

We have filed an amicus curiae ("friend of the court") brief on the Heller v. DC case that is now headed to the Supreme Court.

*

The ISRA is suing Cook County over their "so called" assault weapons ban enacted in secret in 2006.

*

The ISRA is gathering opposition to the latest anti-gun ordinances proposed by the Cook County Board in December 2007. These proposals would put most all gun shops in the county out of business, and would ban firearms under the guise of gun registration.

*

The ISRA is leading the opposition to the ISP's stubbornness on FOID administration, with regards to illegal delays and denials, including the recent move to deny FOIDs for those under 10 years old.

*

The ISRA has an Attorney's Referral System in place to help be sure gun owners have sound legal representation.

*

The ISRA holds town meetings to help local gun owners meet and defeat the high handed tactics of local governments.

*

The ISRA maintains three lobbyists in Springfield to protect the rights of gun owners in Illinois.

As you can see, we have come a long way since our beginnings and we are still in the forefront fighting for freedom. If you believe in personal freedom and want your children to have a fighting chance to taste it, you should join the Illinois State Rifle Association. We would like to have you as a member. You have made the right decision by joining the ISRA. We hope you will go out of your way and recruit other members that you know will have the same ideals and goals.

What are you doing to help the ISRA?

Help out the ISRA by joining, if you're not already a member. If you are a member, get your friend or neighbor to join.

And membership dues only go so far, lobbyists are expensive to feed! Please make a legislative donation.

I don't always agree 100% with the ISRA, or the NRA for that matter, but if THEY agree with ME on 80% of issues, it's $25 well spent.

Well put, Lou.

Remember that without the ISRA, our legislators are only going to be hearing the ICHV side of the story (as far as formal lobbying goes). What percentage of the time will that organization agree with our positions?

I'm with you guys....we may not agree 100% of the time on all things but for the most part NOT being an NRA or ISRA in my opinion is a big mistake, especially for us here in Illinois.

GOA, SAF and CCRKBA are a few other groups that are a good bet as well.

I have to agree with you guys. As much as I have groused about how they have misplayed some events in recent years, they are our best voice.

A couple months ago I renewed early and got a family membership to include my wife and daughter.

Lawyers for lawsuits in Cook County, and filing of amicus curiae ain't cheap either.

Usually my 'wants' are a bit extravagant, so, when my wife asks, I've figured out what I want my wife to get me for Christmas.

Ya I know.

Shame on me for still waiting.

I joined the ISRA a while back and even donated a couple of additional times. Like everyone else I don't agree totally with what they do but imho they are doing good work for us considering the resources they have available. I'll probably take out a life membership when my renewal come up and I hope some of the new members at least consider trying a 1 yr membership.
