Nice photos.

What's with the 98k (cupped buttplate) and the finger in the triggerguard?

I don't see that very often.

That's a nice-looking mauser ... from Mitchell's?

Yep, thats my friends mauser and it's from Mitchell's. I Got a big 'ol bruise on my shoulder from firing that thing yesterday. i didn't notice that he had his finger in the trigerguard when the pic was taken, but all the guns in the pic were not loaded, in fact the ar15 doesn't have a clip in it. We picked them up off the table just for the picture.

I would love to attend one also....it looks like way too much fun.

Question: If a person legally owns an NFA item and is a resident of another State, can that NFA item be shot/possessed in IL for the educational seminar?

I do not believe so, unless you have a what ... Class 7 manufacturing license? I believe you can pass through the state with it (not sure about that), but I am pretty sure a non-NFA state cannot be your destination. I will ask a friend and try to get back with you.

NFA stuff is strictly forbidden in this state (go figure).

You need a type 06 manufacturers license. & guess who has one of those but does not use it because of the stupid taxes they want when it is used. Yep I have one.

Most folks say that the rifles from Mitchell's are very good. The blonde wood on that mauser is really, really nice! I have two 98s, both laminated but very dark (almost red). Not as pretty as that one of your friends. I really love them. In one photo, I noticed a bandolier lying next to the rifle. Was that what you were shooting? If I am correct, that's Turk surplus ammo, which is loaded pretty hot. It used to be dirt common and cheap, but now it's dried up. I got some in Texas ... I think is was $35 for a case of 1200, plus shipping. At a gun show just the other week, I picked up four 70-round bandos for $10 each (still don't know how I got that good a deal). Midwest in Lyons has some ... for $35 per bando!

Yeah ... the 8mm's leave bruises ... about as bad as Moisin's.

Wow, your good Garand! The ammo is turk and he picked it up a few months ago when we were at the Dupage co. gun show. Believe it or not the Mauser was a service grade with matching #s and when he got it we couldn't belive the condition. This thing was never shot or used and didn't have any imperfections. I believe that they take these things out off the case, clean the cosmoline off of them and ship them. From what Mitchell's told my friend when he bought it, they were manufactured cased and never open or handled until mitchell's got them.

You have got to watch those stripper clips, my other friend was loading up the mauser on sat. and sliced his thumb open.

....not much of a back stop. Can one be assured of what is there?

I plan on building the burms up a bit more this year. there is a 25' tall burm out at about 300 yards then past that the nearest anything is a good 2-3 miles.

Yes, for sure. Back in Texas I used to frequent rifle matches. One fun match featured two arrays of 6 12" plates each, set at 100m. Shooters would "compete" with each other, the winner knocking down the six plates first. Offhand shooting. Anyway ... reloads with strippers got hot and heavy. I would sometimes shoot my Yugo M24/47 mauser, and that Turk ammo. When I did, would inevitably have various stripper-clip cuts at the end of the day!

Those matches were really fun.
