THAT may depend on how the mid-terms go….  A change one way or the other is very likely to swing what kind of replacement will be able to be confirmed…..

He may have waited too long.   

 

The probability of a Democratic Senate in a few months is high enough that any Trump replacement for him or Thomas (sure hope his health holds up) would have tough sledding.

I can imagine a new D controlled Senate pulling a McConnell by holding any confirmations for the next President. Would Alito or Thomas retire right after the 2026 election, hoping the lame duck Senate could quickly confirm a new justice?

Soundguy, that seems like one of the only plays left. Presumably the White House has a list of candidates ready to go at all times. But I wonder if Thune could pull it off.

Let's just hope the 2A comes out and supports their candidates across the country, with the exception of IL. We don't support our 2A candidates, not even the squishy ones. I think the 2A likes the excitement of being semi-legal when it comes to the 2A. Chicago's handgun ban, Cook County ban, ccl ban, and the PICA ban.

I said months ago, it was stupid to go beyond the Nuc bombing until after the midterms, I stated it could cost us the House/ Senate or both.  It was a huge mistake.  It may cost us control and also the next SC justice. Stupid from brilliant.... Take his cell phone, look at the long game. As far as the Iran deal, he missed badly. If we lose either, he is a lame duck.
