New Chicago standards coming eventually for dealers who sell guns to city departments

The latest in posturing to the Brady groups:

 

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson signs order toughening city standards on buying guns - CBS Chicago

 

Any gun dealer seeking to contract with the city will need to meet whatever standards are developed, as well as disclose licensing and regulatory compliance information, gun-related violations, corrective actions, and business practices to prevent gun trafficking, straw purchasing, theft, and other illegal activity.

The order follows an investigation by the group Brady: United Against Gun Violence showing that law enforcement agencies around the country have spent millions in taxpayer dollars buying guns from dealers and manufacturers who had violated federal gun regulations multiple times.

 

It would be nice if all dealers could refuse Chicago's business as a result but I am sure someone will probably fill the demand.

My understanding is that Chicago cops buy their own service weapons. Won't this restriction just mean that no Chicago cop would be able to buy a weapon at a contract price?

So, law enforcement agencies that have violated federal gun regulations multiple times (ATF anyone???) must buy firearms from a dealer “cleaner” than they are?

I can confirm that CPD must purchase their own guns. I don't know of any city agency that has contracts with any gun dealers. The city simply does not purchase guns nor have any contracts with any gun dealers that I'm aware of. There is no contract price for CPD when the officers purchase their own guns. Many manufactures will offer a LEO price but that is for any LEO across the country so wouldn't constitute a contract for any specific agency. About the closest that a dealer might come to a contract would be for ammunition to stock the ranges for qualifications and practice but I'm not sure if that would be subject to this order. 

 

This order by the moron elected as mayor is nothing more than grandstanding and not worth the paper it is written on.

Has anyone investigated these "anti gun groups", waiting to hear stories like the SPLC related to these groups. 

And I have to ask, if someone is violating the gun dealer rules/laws repeatedly wouldn't the ATF or FBI or some other agency have stepped in and shut these dealers down by now?

Upon further inspection this data need to be combed through, example is someone FFL with warnings from the ATF upon an inspection. 

 

AND this org uses the statement on some places and I am surprised they are not sued for slander\libel\defamation in making those claims and statements.

A dealer is marked as “known high crime gun dealer” if we know that the dealer had transferred 25 or more guns quickly recovered in crimes in at least one of the years 2020 - 2023. These firearms must have been purchased less than three years before the time they were recovered — a characteristic that the ATF has identified as a key indicator of gun trafficking. Brady obviously thinks it can continue to chip away at the edges and put some dealers out of business.  That said, I’m not sure the outcome will be favorable for the side favoring the “control” agenda if every instance where governments/government employees are buying from so called “high crime” dealers (if true) is investigated deeply and transparently.

Not exactly on-topic, but:

 

The ISP are swapping out their .40 Glocks for 9mm. They are able to buy their old service weapons for a couple hundred bucks, but the sale is going through a dealer in Indiana of all places:

Acme Sports Inc | SEYMOUR | 47274

 

They then have to be shipped to an Illinois FFL for transfer to the purchaser. They couldn't find an Illinois FFL to facilitate this process?

I thought Indiana gun dealers were the devil incarnate?

Perfect yes?  Zero tax etc for Illinois.  Yes bad for local FFL's but at some time there needs to be a push back towards the top (Mayor Governor etc).  We already buy gas and groceries from Indiana.  Many private citizens already only buy guns from Indiana or online.  These fools can't see the tax dollars they run out of Illinois each and every day!  Hey U-Haul, how's your business fellas?
