Glock43 Posted July 14, 2026 at 10:30 PM Posted July 14, 2026 at 10:30 PM I have been a Life Member of the ISRA for about 10 years or so. Can people fill me in the ISRA governance structure? I see a board and three “executives”. How are the executives elected? By the board? And how are board members elected? I have never received a ballot over the years and have never heard of anyone running for the board. The ISRA website is pretty coy on any details. Todd, after you stop laughing, can you fill us in on anything? From your posts over the years I get the feeling they are in even deeper muck than the NRA is or was!
Yeti Posted July 14, 2026 at 11:05 PM Posted July 14, 2026 at 11:05 PM Great questions, no answers to offer but looking forward any learning from your query.
Euler Posted July 14, 2026 at 11:17 PM Posted July 14, 2026 at 11:17 PM The director appoints the board members. The board members elect the director. If it looks like the board needs temporary, additional members to help them decide the next director, the current director can appoint them before the election, then release them after the election.
Tvandermyde Posted July 15, 2026 at 02:00 AM Posted July 15, 2026 at 02:00 AM I am not up on everything ISRA these days. I believe there is a nominating committee that deals with Board slots and the Board elects the officers. know current knowledge about overall state of affairs. I have been working with Eddie on a number of things legislatively. I recently met with leadership to go over legislative issue and some litigation. ISRA agreed to work on an amici for the Viramontes in a coordinated effort. We are talking about other issues to collaborate on and row the boat in the same direction. It was a good meeting and I am looking forward to what comes out of it. They will be holding their August board meeting at the Aurora Sportsmen's Club
SiliconSorcerer Posted July 15, 2026 at 01:15 PM Posted July 15, 2026 at 01:15 PM I'm glad it was good. It all looked like a private secrete society when I was trying to figure it out years ago. Life member but since then not a dime (or brick) more until I get convinced otherwise.
Glock43 Posted July 16, 2026 at 02:04 AM Author Posted July 16, 2026 at 02:04 AM Euler’s description sounds like the chicken and egg conundrum. Who came first? So members have no ability to effect any change in the organization? I get the NRA 5 year voting rule - kind of like a legal resident vs a “citizen”who can vote. But this seems crazy!

The ISRA has been known to post notices in the quarterly journal looking for talent. Show up and volunteer, and you will get noticed.
lilguy Posted August 27, 2026 at 12:30 PM Posted August 27, 2026 at 12:30 PM Call and talk to Rich Pearson. I called him when PICA landed on us, had an interesting discussion. The website offers only a widow into the working of the organization. A lot of folks hate on the ISRA. Illinois is anti gun by majority vote in the north east of the state, not any one organizations fault. There are a hundred times FOID holders compared to ISRA members. If they all gave a ——- and voted as 2nd amendment purists we’d be a free state. We, our neighbors, our fellow state citizens are the problem. Government by majority vote, good folks willing to limit their rights for a false sense of security. It’s the American way. FOID cards per county - 2,563,492 total cards Concealed Carry Licenses per county - 516,213 total
