Doug75 Posted May 21, 2026 at 06:39 PM Posted May 21, 2026 at 06:39 PM I'm a CCL instructor and make the dumb mistake of letting my CCL expire!!! Can I print myself a certificate from my last 16 hour class I taught, or do I need to take the class again from someone else? I'm so aggrivated with myself..
Quiet Observer Posted May 21, 2026 at 07:23 PM Posted May 21, 2026 at 07:23 PM That seems to be in a legal grey area. You probably only need a 3-hour course. Can you find another instructor to "train" for you for free and then you reciprocate later when he is up for renewal? "Can I renew with a 3-hour refresher training certificate even after my CCL has expired? In most circumstances, yes. However, if you renew your CCL after its expiration date, your card will be invalid while your application is being processed." IL Firearm Applicant Portal I think that I have seen other posts that indicate that if you have been conducting classes, that that would count as qualifying for your renewal, when you reapply. The ISP would have a record of the classes that you gave. I have never been an instructor. Maybe one here can give you reliable information.
soundguy Posted May 21, 2026 at 07:36 PM Posted May 21, 2026 at 07:36 PM If you are an instructor, you may self certify. You should be certain to cover all the law with yourself. It would be embarrassing to turn yourself in for giving a short class or missing something. Cheers, Tim
