Glock43 Posted May 19, 2026 at 09:00 PM Posted May 19, 2026 at 09:00 PM I understand logic isn’t their strong suit, but why is HB4471 being pushed anymore? Glock, earlier this year, already caved to California and changed the design of their pistols to “eliminate” them being converted with a “switch”.

They want to be able to dictate what they consider safe design, and require safety features, much as has been done with the auto industry.
Dumak_from_arfcom Posted May 20, 2026 at 02:53 AM Posted May 20, 2026 at 02:53 AM They banned almost every single semi-auto long gun. Their next move is to ban the most common handguns. And it isn't just Glocks. It is pretty much every striker fired handgun. We've done a piss poor job at explaining this. I've got friends who shoot various clones and M&Ps and they think they won't be affected. They think it is just a ban on Glocks because the switches are for Glocks.

Just look at history, that is what they do, go after the low hanging fruit and then expand it as far as they can

By “they”, just to be clear, you mean Democrats correct?

Yeti Posted May 20, 2026 at 06:52 PM Posted May 20, 2026 at 06:52 PM (edited) To the original question posted, outside of the understanding that this is an emotional act for some, it is generally about People Control for the strategists on the Left, not the objects in the bill. "Gun Control" is 100% People Control. Democratic Party leaders will continue to invent scary control terms like """assault weapons""", "high capacity magazines", "Saturday night specials", "sniper rifles", "convertible pistols", "ghost guns", "military style weapons", etc. to market & sell specific object control actions to their flocks, and then-- after they chip away and ban each object-- they will turn their focus to speech/behavior (as in Europe). The actions in Europe portend the future here if the Liberal voters get their way and destroy the 2A. As the Left depletes 2A rights piece-by-piece -by-piece, the degradation of freedom goes unnoticed by most. Some gun owners even willingly endorse it with their votes. They want their "Lord the Government" to have a monopoly on violence and be the only holders of weapons so they can control more than guns (again, see speech control in Europe). Unarmed people cannot resist. The Founding Fathers saw this coming and put the 2A near the top of the list for that reason. Democrats lie and say that that the 2A was only for hunting or other nonsense, satisfying the voting flock that wishes to outsource personal responsibility to its revered government deities. "Convertible pistols" is only the latest term they are marketing to eliminate another subset of guns because they have already managed to ban the other "scary named" gun subsets listed above (for now) in IL. Then they will look at whatever remains and come after "double-deadly duplicitously barreled shotguns" or "military-issued hammer fired hand cannons" or "assassin rimfires" or "targeting optics" or some other nonsensical terror labels that wet the pants of the ignorant and are ignored by voters who would rather be suckled by a leftist Motherland than save freedom. People who vote for the Democratic platform containing "gun control" are endorsing this. The politicians who want their money and positions of power will happily do their bidding in Il and elsewhere. Can't argue with this. The democrats at today's hearing didn't even try to counter that the switches are already illegal and that the criminals using the switches aren't getting jail time. And they definitely don't care that glocks are in common use and the most popular handgun in America. It is about civilian disarmament, and after they take out striker fired guns, they'll just make up a new bogey man to go after what is left. I think at this point that everything is going to end up as a court fight. That isn't sustainable against unlimited pockets of the State. We need the DOJ to step in with depravation of civil rights lawsuits - even if the DOJ doesn't win, make the process the punishment.
