On May 16, 2023, MD Governor Wes Moore signed the state's "vampire" carry bill into law (along with several other carry restrictions). FPC immediately sponsored a complaint in Maryland Federal District Court.

On August 2, 2024, the district court granted summary judgment to the plaintiffs and enjoined enforcement of the vampire law (and some of the other provisions).

On January 20, 2026, the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the injunction on the vampire law (but reversed the other provisions).

On April 20, MD petitioned the US Supreme Court to reverse the 4th Circuit and to vacate the injunction on the vampire law. (docket)

Like Hawaii in Wolford, MD contends that the vampire law does not implicate the 2nd Amendment, because it is really just an assertion of private property owners' rights.
