Hello all, I submitted my finalized appeal for my revoked FOID card today. Long story short an old case from 2008 ended up causing me to lose the FOID and concealed carry. It was a class 4 felony non violent drug case. No trouble since then. Anyone know how long the process is until I find out if I’ll get my rights back? Thank you all in advance. God bless.

My timeline for a bogus C&PD filing was:

Revoked August 2023, submitted all paperwork (including mental health evaluation) November 2024, denied January 2025, went before the FCRB via zoom Mid-February 2025, and was granted relief early April 2025. During that time, however, most of 2024 was inquiring about information, convoluted paperwork, timelines, speaking to multiple departments, etc, and waiting… lots of waiting. I wasn’t convicted of a felony, so I can’t comment on how that avenue works but I would assume if you’re denied, you can go before the board as well, and if you’re denied, you have to file your claim in the Circuit Court. Since Illinois uploads revocations and suspensions of your FOID to the FBI, you can not own firearms anywhere in the nation, unless of course you go the “private” avenue, which would still get you hemmed up with LEOs as you’re in the federal denial system. Good luck and God speed.

So did it all get straightened out for you or are you still a prohibited person in the eyes of the feds? I only ask because I live in Florida now and don’t care about Illinois. Just need my rights restored. I appreciate your advice.

As a Florida resident, you do not seem to be eligible for a FOID. There are work-related exceptions. It seems that you should be spending time getting the conviction reversed, expunged or whatever. The FOID means nothing to the feds or Florida.

Yes, but ISP reports FOID revocations to the FBI which disqualifies you from owning a firearm federally.

As long as his felony is on record, will anything change? He does not mention in his post if he has addressed his conviction.

He would have to go through the process of having his conviction overturned or expunged through the court system. Since felons can’t own firearms, that should be his first step in reinstating his rights.
