countyline Posted January 12, 2026 at 05:11 PM Posted January 12, 2026 at 05:11 PM This seems to have picked up a lot of sponsors - is this a real threat or a bait-and-switch for something less egregious but still awful?
mauserme Posted January 12, 2026 at 05:19 PM Posted January 12, 2026 at 05:19 PM They didn't have the votes last Spring or in the 2025 Veto Session, but they've been working on adding votes. We're taking it seriously.
Black Flag Posted January 12, 2026 at 05:32 PM Posted January 12, 2026 at 05:32 PM "They" want "Us" to be defenseless.

ragsbo Posted January 12, 2026 at 10:16 PM Posted January 12, 2026 at 10:16 PM Like I have said MANY MANY times, these liberal socialist commies will NOT stop till they and their minions are the only ones with guns so they can rule over us peeons! The only way to stop them is to start holding them accountable for this crap, and I mean jail time and taking everything they got. Make it hurt so bad they won't think about it. BUT that ain't gonna happen
mab22 Posted January 14, 2026 at 06:53 PM Posted January 14, 2026 at 06:53 PM I lean towards the "commerce clause" for this myself. I know I know it's not screaming 2A....
lilguy Posted January 20, 2026 at 05:11 PM Posted January 20, 2026 at 05:11 PM (edited) That equates to adding to the cost of each car the cost of damage caused by them, or any products. Tools, drugs, any problem that misuse or unintended consequences of use causes. Edited January 20, 2026 at 05:11 PM by lilguy

Yas Posted January 21, 2026 at 08:26 PM Posted January 21, 2026 at 08:26 PM Make Cell phone service carriers and cell phone manufacturers liable for accidents incurred from distracted drivers using devices while operating a motor vehicle.

I mean, the car still started even though there was a cell phone in it.
EdDinIL Posted May 29, 2026 at 03:27 PM Posted May 29, 2026 at 03:27 PM Now that we're coming to the end of the legislative session, is there any inkling this is going to happen? Neither bill has advanced beyond First Reading, and they're currently stuck in Rules or Assignments, where bills tend to go to die. Yay for that, but there's always the chance a shell bill gets reworded for this in the murky hours when nobody is watching. Any word from any contacts on whether that's being considered?
mauserme Posted May 29, 2026 at 04:19 PM Posted May 29, 2026 at 04:19 PM I believe their focus is currently on less ambitious legislation.

DoYouFeelLucky Posted May 30, 2026 at 03:12 AM Posted May 30, 2026 at 03:12 AM When I saw an online article about this my first thought was wow, rogue AI bot making things up. I should of known better. If gov jellyroll believes you can tax a right, then maybe they should implement publishing taxes for the media. Let's say $1 per word printed or spoken.
