Does this have any impact on gun ownership? Or is it basically no change, there?

Background:

On 12/18/25, President Trump signed an executive order rescheduling Marijuana from Schedule 1 to Schedule 3.

There is no confusion.

Marijuana is still classified as a drug.

Marijuana use may still prohibit you from buying a gun.

Cheers,

Tim

The 4473 still says "Are you an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana or any depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance?"

In the meantime, Bondi is still pursuing convictions (overturning acquittals) for firearm possession by people who had only misdemeanor drug possession convictions (or even just verbal admissions without charges) in several cases petitioned to the US Supreme Court. She's not stopping.

She's on her way out from what it sounds like.

I wonder if dispenseries go away now that any pharmacy can fill a prescription. Do they stick around for recreational users? Do the feds crack down now?

The biggest thing in my mind is that the airport was the only place you could go and not smell weed. Guessing that changes quick.

That O'Hare had those green "amnesty" boxes for weed without locks on them initially just reeked of bureaucratic ineptness and hungry fingers.

Looks like it was another wishy washy half-measure..........

Sounds like its just being opened up to be researched so in another 20 years we might see it as actually prescribable ........meanwhile the infringements continue.

That's not how I'm reading it

You've got to give people time to react. They've even cleaned up the wording that Trump's order was just telling an agency to reschedule not an actual rescheduling. Bet this takes a year or more to fully shake out.

Being that the liberal (B...S....) second hand smoke is accepted as factual a blood test worthless.

Can those be handled administratively through rules changes or will those two things require an act (or acts) of Congress?

Since Trump now supports decriminalizing it will the left now shift support to criminalizing it???

Waiting for the remarks from the rotund one….

I figure once they get to the point you can get it with a prescription then they will probably treat it like Norco as far as the 4473 goes........HOWEVER my guess is they will still discriminate on CDL's and employment tests by using the absolute bogus 0.003ng/L threshold which basically means if you have used in the last several days you will show a "DUI" even though you are completely sober.

Or you were at a party last night and people were smoking it around you.

I haven't seen that hold up when challenged in court.

No.

Certain forces have convinced the President to seek to reclassify marijuana so the government can study and fund studies having to do with the effectiveness of its compounds for use in relieving pain and illness. It might be Secretary Kennedy. This is a good thing, which has been stymied ever since marijuana became formally classified as a dangerous drug in 1970. This is just a small step towards allowing it to be sold much as alcohol is sold. We are a long way from decriminalization.

Business big and small will mostly be served by this action, should it happen. State-Legal pot shops might be able to deduct business expenses on their tax returns. They might be able to have business bank accounts. You might be able to buy pot using a credit card!

Unless you know that Trump has specifically said he supports decriminalizing marijuana, I would guess he does not. He will not approve of using it for giggles. Some members of the administration may be giggle users, but who knows...

Cheers,

Tim

There are going to be more "drunk drivers" on the roads.  The problem is that there isn't an easy and reliable test for roadside testing.  Yet.

People under the influence tend to drive slower and leave more space between cars, quite the opposite of drinking.

I'm not a proponent, but I've heard this from several officers.

Personally I tend to drives slower and leave more space than normal between cars, but my observation leaves this is far from the norm.

If you're doing those tests you've already lost. Just junk science meant to improve the case against you.
