Bitter Clinger Posted July 15, 2025 at 01:31 PM Posted July 15, 2025 at 01:31 PM I did my renewal class and submitted the renewal on the ISP Website back in May, but the Website shows that my CCL expires on 7/15. Can I still carry or am I now "prohibited" until the ISP decides to get around to approving my renewal? I couldn't find any information in the FAQ and didn't see anything here on the forums.
Molly B. Posted July 15, 2025 at 02:20 PM Posted July 15, 2025 at 02:20 PM If you submitted your renewal prior to expiration date, your CCL remains valid while ISP processes the renewal. (c) A license is invalid upon expiration of the license, unless the licensee has submitted an application to renew the license, and the applicant is otherwise eligible to possess a license under this Act. https://www.ilga.gov/Legislation/ILCS/Articles?ActID=3497&ChapterID=39#
Nod Posted July 15, 2025 at 03:21 PM Posted July 15, 2025 at 03:21 PM My experation date was Feb 6, after 45 days the ISP site said I was missing the photo, (I had sent both the form & photo originally and they said they had eveything they needed) so I resubmitted it and it took another 38 days for renewal. And yes, you can legally carry during that period.
Bitter Clinger Posted July 15, 2025 at 04:01 PM Author Posted July 15, 2025 at 04:01 PM Ok, good to know everyone. Thanks!

Nothing anyone says here matters other than what your CCL is in your dashboard. They have given you good info, but it matters not, only what your status is on the ISP website.
lilguy Posted August 22, 2025 at 12:45 PM Posted August 22, 2025 at 12:45 PM I was stopped once for 45 in a 35 mph zone. The cop asked for my license and said, “you must be a good person, you have a CCW. Sorry, I still have to give you a citation”.I had a handgun in the glovebox, he did not ask about it, he knew I was ok. JQP is correct, make sure you are good on the ISP site, the card in your wallet is not the final word on the issue.
davel501 Posted August 22, 2025 at 01:06 PM Posted August 22, 2025 at 01:06 PM Yeah, the ccw seems to help. I got pulled over in Montana last week for 73 in a 65 coming into Billings. The cop and I were talking about politics and how bad illinois is while he ran my info. Suddenly an alarm chime goes off on his laptop, he looked at it quick while hitting a button and closed the screen. He said I'm giving you a warning, now get out of my car. I don't think he even put the warning in the system. I'm guessing the alarm was my ccw and he was looking for drugs. He knew I was a waste of time after the ccw came up.

He had you in the car at the time? Strange, they usually run the plates before any contact. This sounds like you were in his/her vehicle and the flag went up, which it does for both FOID, and or CCL

Then typed in my info.

This probably prompted the attitude because he should have made the check before he put you in the vehicle. I would bet he will take care not to do that again. Thing is 99.5 percent of CCL are nothing to worry about and I'm sure he knew that too, I think he was just p***** at himself on a process, he had in mind, and what actually happened.... There's a gun in my backseat, and I put it there. I get it. At that point he was completely vulnerable and he knew it. This gives me something to think about as to informing if something like this were to happen to me. I need to give it some thought as to how I would handle such and occurrence. My first thought is to inform while in the vehicle, but I shall give it some more thought. Thanks for this Dave, it's one I would have never thought about on my own. Guy was at least in his late 40s. I don't think he was surprised and he never asked if I was armed. They don't act the same about guns out there. You can have guns in bars if you want.
John Q Public Posted August 23, 2025 at 05:10 PM Posted August 23, 2025 at 05:10 PM I've been there too, the terse way he said to exit, leads me to believe he was not real happy the way it went down. Alaska is more than used to firearms, but their SP is to take possession from the jump. Whatever the deal, I would want to know one way or the other, this guy though didn't even know you were lawful CCL and brought you in the squad without a check. IMO not good on his part. Anyway, glad it all worked out, and like I said, food for thought, for me.
John Q Public Posted August 24, 2025 at 05:54 PM Posted August 24, 2025 at 05:54 PM After more thought, this was really stupid on his part, you could have been a felon, and he wouldn't have known. It's a serious breech of awareness and self preservation. Just wow!

He hardly talked about speeding except to get me out of the car and to tell me to leave. He wanted to know where I was going and where I was coming from. I'm guessing they thought I fit the profile for trafficking and he was just the unit I saw. His reaction was more like he got his time wasted than he screwed up.
vk60187 Posted October 16, 2025 at 06:19 PM Posted October 16, 2025 at 06:19 PM I just noticed that when generating an e-card, after submitting renewal application, the card now says... NO under CCL since I'm in renewal stage now. This is strange, because my original CCL expires in Jan of 2026!
