Illinois joins lawsuit against U.S. over triggers that can make semiautomatic rifles fire faster

Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul said he would continue to enforce the ban on the devices through Illinois law that prohibits owning them and other devices — such as bump stocks — that can make semiautomatic rifles fire faster.

Illinois joined 15 other states Monday in suing the Trump administration over plans to return forced-reset triggers that were confiscated by federal law enforcement and once again allow them to be sold. The devices are used to make semiautomatic rifles fire faster.

The suit, filed in Maryland, argues the administration’s action violates federal law and poses a threat to residents and law enforcement because of the capacity of the devices to worsen gun violence.

Which Illinois law prohibits them, PICA?  Are they outright banned, or one of the many registerable items?  Not that any state law banning them is constitutional, but it still is a state law until someone says otherwise, and any IL resident getting one back is lining up to be arrested.

The UUW statute -- in particular 5/24-1(a)(14) -- disallows components that increase the rate of fire of semi-automatic weapons. The prohibition was added as part of PICA.

Virtue signalinging on Raoul's part. They're illegal here regardless if they are legal or not nationally.

I was wondering about this. The triggers are illegal in Illinois , and ATF has already said that they won't return triggers to jurisdictions where the triggers are banned. I can't see how Raoul would have any standing in this case.

He's playing his party, in this case, a supernumerary. They're the extras in operas that fill out crowds.  See also "Virtue signaling".
