Adding a +1 extension to my semi auto shotgun that’s 4+1 making it 5+1

Been having an issues get an extension for my semi auto shotgun. My local gun shop refunded my + 1 extension tube because he said it was illegal to own. me and him went back and forth about it. And he was trying to demand a restocking fee….😐But it's being added to a 4+1 making it 5+1 within the legal limit.

Is this true that I can't purchase it? I thought I will be OK as long as I'm in the legal limit.

If I'm reading this correctly, according to the ISP all shotgun extension tubes are subject to PICA if they aren't used for hunting. Since state law prohibits you from hunting using a shotgun with a magazine holding more than three rounds, your shotgun and extension tube can't be used for hunting and would therefore be subject to PICA.

Source: (  isp dot illinois dot gov slash Home slash AssaultWeapons )  Google can find it easily enough, search for illinois shotgun magazine capacity .

That's not what the law says though.

(3) ""assault weapon" attachment" means any device capable of being attached to a firearm that is specifically designed for making or converting a firearm into any of the firearms listed in paragraph (1) of this subsection

As long as they don't make a longer fixed magazine that the extension fits on then it can't be an "assault weapon" attachment.

The law is apparently whatever ISP says the law is.  It's that same vague and loose interpretation that keeps firearm owners from purchasing parts kits to do maintenance on existing firearms.

None of that means the dealer is correct in denying the sale of the extension tube.  It just means the dealer is doing its best to cover itself so it can stay in business.

The law is the law. The ISP is neither judge nor jury.

I stand by my original advice, just go buy it elsewhere.

I'm assuming this is meant to be a home defense firearm? If so, 5 shots 'should' be plenty? Just wondering out loud if it would be worth the hassle to ME for just 1 extra shell.
