mauserme Posted April 27, 2025 at 11:33 PM Posted April 27, 2025 at 11:33 PM Call to Action! Witness Slips Needed! In our last Call to Action, we asked that you show your opposition to SB8 Safe Gun Storage. At the time, the bill was posted to a 4/23/2025 House Gun Violence Prevention Committee hearing, but was not heard on that day. It is now posted again, to the 4/30/2025 hearing in the same committee. This bill ignores Supreme Court rulings in D.C. V Heller regarding storage; NYSRPA v Bruen regarding text, history and tradition; and US v Rahimi regarding due process, and we ask for your continued help to defeat it at the committee level. Please file new witness slips opposing this legislation, before the 30th. Another bill mentioned in a past Call to Action, SB2431 Explosives & Consumer Fireworks, was one of five we were working against in that alert. Thanks to your efforts, four of them are currently dormant. Unfortunately, SB2431 did pass out of the Senate and is now posted to the 4/29/2025 House Judiciary – Criminal Committee hearing. By requiring a new license to possess any item listed in ATF's Annual List of Explosive Material, this new license will be required for smokeless powder and black powder substitutes. This will adversely affect not only hand loaders, but those who use muzzle loaders in the exercise of the Second Amendment rights. We ask you to show your opposition to this bill once again, this time by filing witness slips against it for the 4/29 hearing. Join us for additional discussion on the IllinoisCarry forum. ### SB8 Safe Gun Storage OPPONENT! springfield shooter Posted April 29, 2025 at 02:06 PM Posted April 29, 2025 at 02:06 PM Both done. If/when you get discouraged and think, "What's the point?"...just consider: that's what our friends across the aisle want you to think. Thanks for all your work Mauser. You and everyone at Illinois Carry.

I filed, but that thought does cross my mind. Have our witness slips ever been honored as a legitimate block to anti-gun legislation? Yes, the Call to Action mentioned that several bills are currently dormant, but I wonder if that's due less to our vigilance and more to other political shenanigans going on behind the scenes.
John Q Public Posted April 29, 2025 at 05:23 PM Posted April 29, 2025 at 05:23 PM (edited) I don't think they do a damn thing, other than to get it on record that they do not listen to those who elected them. I think calls to your reps does work. If they had 2k calls on an issue it's hard to ignore. I've taken to calling and emailing. Edited April 29, 2025 at 05:28 PM by John Q Public
SiliconSorcerer Posted April 29, 2025 at 08:08 PM Posted April 29, 2025 at 08:08 PM I heard they hit 40,000+ opposition in 24 hours on the home schooling that appeared worked. I try to post count when I vote but we need a lot more than (now) 4 or 5 hundred and there's a lot more firearms owners than homeschooling.
John Q Public Posted April 29, 2025 at 08:45 PM Posted April 29, 2025 at 08:45 PM I called them on the HS issue as well. The real truth is most of them have no clue what they are voting for, only that the party want them to do so....
mauserme Posted April 29, 2025 at 10:49 PM Author Posted April 29, 2025 at 10:49 PM A quick House Judiciary - Criminal Committee update - SB2431 Explosives & Consumer Firework was not heard today. We'll hope for the same on SB8 Safe Gun Storage tomorrow.

I believe that is very true but friend support friends and they have an excellent distribution system. A whole lot of people follow the coffee and covid. Frankly I have no idea where that even is but I hear it reference a lot. The anti covid vaccine crowd is a lot of homeschooling.
mauserme Posted April 30, 2025 at 08:09 PM Author Posted April 30, 2025 at 08:09 PM Update #2 - SB8 Safe Gun Storage was not heard on the Gun Violence Prevention Committee today.
SiliconSorcerer Posted April 30, 2025 at 09:10 PM Posted April 30, 2025 at 09:10 PM Sorry one thing I'll add. It's unfortunate the NRA won't send out email to all the Illinois residents on this.
mauserme Posted May 13, 2025 at 02:32 AM Author Posted May 13, 2025 at 02:32 AM Just a quick update to let everyone know that, even though SB2431 Explosives & Consumer Firework was approved in committee and is now on the House Calendar, SB8 Safe Gun Storage was not. It's been referred back to the Rules Committee, hopefully to fade into obscurity (no guarantees, of course). Thank you to everyone who didn't give up.
