mauserme Posted February 4, 2025 at 01:14 AM Share Posted February 4, 2025 at 01:14 AM 2/4/2025 The legislature begins it's second full week with no bills related to us on either calendar, and no bills related to us posted to committees. With the creation of a new House Gun Violence Prevention standing committee, that is likely to change in the not distant future. Today, 2/4/2025, both the House and the Senate are scheduled for 12:00 Noon today. Next Days Scheduled House: 2/5/2025 Senate: 2/5/2025 House Calendar 2/4/2025 Senate Calendar 2/4/2025
EdDinIL Posted February 4, 2025 at 04:48 PM Share Posted February 4, 2025 at 04:48 PM I didn't find this elsewhere, so since you mentioned the new committee I'll ask here. Will the Gun Violence Prevention Committee hear firearm-related bills in lieu of Judiciary - Criminal Committee or in addition to it? I assume all bills that carry a potential criminal penalty must go through Judiciary - Criminal. I know, not that it will matter much. If they want it passed, they'll approve it in both places and ignore all the witness slips.
mauserme Posted February 4, 2025 at 05:03 PM Author Share Posted February 4, 2025 at 05:03 PM I assume their intention is to hear them in the new committee. So far, no bills have been assigned to either committee.

mab22 Posted February 5, 2025 at 02:50 AM Share Posted February 5, 2025 at 02:50 AM If the FOID and all of this constant background checks, and fees for this and that are for the general public safety, then why isn't paid for by the general public? Ya know, like schools are.

It’s worse than that. He wants $4 of every background check to fund ISP SWAT teams to go out and “collect” your firearms.

mauserme Posted February 5, 2025 at 09:24 PM Author Share Posted February 5, 2025 at 09:24 PM Prior to the vote on that resolution, the House recesses for an R caucus. Democrats have a few more resolutions lined up. Rather than give them any sort of relevance, I'm calling it a day. Upon adjournment they will be back on 2/28/2025. All the signs of a sneak thru when nobody is looking… there were zero NO’s — either a YES, a NV (like they weren’t there to vote), or an Excused Absence (who wouldn’t be there). So what, did they vote while the R’s were out in Caucus or something.

Either way, there's a story behind it.
mauserme Posted February 6, 2025 at 04:24 PM Author Share Posted February 6, 2025 at 04:24 PM The Dems were trying to to put Republicans in a catch 22 - vote against the President or vote against the sponsor's family who played the "how dare you, my husband is a cop" card. With a NV, they can say they didn't vote against it and there's really no way to prove if they were even on the floor when the vote came up.
