The legislature begins it's second full week with no bills related to us on either calendar, and no bills related to us posted to committees.  With the creation of a new House Gun Violence Prevention standing committee, that is likely to change in the not distant future.

Today, 2/4/2025, both the House and the Senate are scheduled for 12:00 Noon today.

Next Days Scheduled

House:  2/5/2025

Senate: 2/5/2025

House Calendar 2/4/2025

Senate Calendar 2/4/2025

I didn't find this elsewhere, so since you mentioned the new committee I'll ask here.  Will the Gun Violence Prevention Committee hear firearm-related bills in lieu of Judiciary - Criminal Committee or in addition to it?  I assume all bills that carry a potential criminal penalty must go through Judiciary - Criminal.

I know, not that it will matter much.  If they want it passed, they'll approve it in both places and ignore all the witness slips.

It's going to be more confusing than I thought.

HB33 FOID Fees was just assigned to the gun violence committee while HB19 FOID & Crim Cd Flamethrower got assigned to Jud - Crim.

The resolution was adopted 73-0-0.  The voting record has a whole boatload of NV.

That vote tally looks really suspicious…..

All the signs of a sneak thru when nobody is looking… there were zero NO’s — either a YES, a NV (like they weren’t there to vote), or an Excused Absence (who wouldn’t be there).

So what, did they vote while the R’s were out in Caucus or something.

Or it was a protest by the Rs, NVing a pointless resolution instead of N, since it was a foregone conclusion anyway.  Either way, there's a story behind it.

The Dems were trying to to put Republicans in a catch 22 - vote against the President or vote against the sponsor's family who played the "how dare you, my husband is a cop" card.

With a NV, they can say they didn't vote against it and there's really no way to prove if they were even on the floor when the vote came up.
