Senate Democrats push plan to abolish Electoral College

Three Democratic senators unveiled a constitutional amendment to abolish the Electoral College system Monday, just more than a month after President-elect Trump stunned the Democrats by sweeping all seven battleground states, knocking off three Senate Democratic incumbents in the process.

 

Sens. Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii,) Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) and Peter Welch (D-Vt.), three leading progressive Senate voices, say it’s time to “restore democracy” by allowing for the direct election of presidents through the popular vote alone.

 

The senators are troubled that the Electoral College has twice elected a candidate who didn’t win the popular vote in the past 19 years. In both those instances, a Republican captured the White House — George W. Bush in the 2000 election and Trump in the 2016 election.

 

“In an election, the person who gets the most votes should win. It’s that simple,” Schatz said. “No one’s vote should count for more based on where they live. The Electoral College is outdated and it’s undemocratic. It’s time to end it.”

Democrats are worried that it has become increasingly difficult to win on the presidential ticket in battleground states while advocating for the progressive agenda that candidates need to embrace in the primary to appeal to the party’s base.

 

“It’s always worth reminding people: It’s really hard for Democrats to win battleground states, OK?” David Plouffe, a senior adviser to Harris’s presidential campaign, told Crooked Media’s “Pod Save America” last month.

 

“Let’s look at Pennsylvania: 25 percent of the electorate is liberal, roughly, 34 percent is conservative,” Plouffe explained. “So in every battleground state, there’s more conservatives than liberals.”

My concern is Why are the Left so quiet?

What do they have up their sleeves?

 

With the Trump win, and his goal of overhauling government, eliminating the Deep State, dismantling entire government agencies, and relieving the tax burden of many by reducing government payroll - WHY are the Left so quiet?

 

Do they, as well as some 3 letter agencies have something planned ?

 

I would have expected much more and louder resistance from those with TDS !

Maybe they realize just how bad it is and need a reset but they can't admit they were the problem.

So, they let things slip back to the middle a bit to gain the public's confidence and let things improve and then they're back in the fray with new faces to push a reframed (but still the same agenda) approach to achieving their goals...

 

Or they could just be realizing that they have a very shallow bench and they don't have any effective leadership right now.

 

Or, they could have a plan to destroy everything under a Republican watch so they can blame it all on them.

The problem with that is that even "Tricky Dicky" Durbin would become irrelevant as he would be in "fly-over country".  New York state and "Kookifornia" would, with their extremely large and dense (in terms of "population density", not mental capacity) populations, would run away with the elections every time.

THAT is why the Electoral College was needed then and even more now.

It's a lack of energy and a general sense of exhaustion. You can see it in how they act: They're still putting on a brave face and yelling "resist!" but the spark and energy just isn't there anymore. They're just going through the motions.

 

As far as they're concerned, Biden winning in 2020 was supposed to be the end of the Trump era. That was supposed to be the return to The Before Times, when they were still dominant. His win shattered a lot of hopes and dreams on the left.

Durbin is such a humiliation for Illinois.  Even as Marxist-Dem infested as this state is, he is a sick joke.  Their arguments change as the situation changes vis-a-vis Democrat advantage/disadvantage in anything.  They have a majority, they vote as a block and ignore Republicans and at least half the country and do whatever they want with no input whatsoever from the "minority."  They become the minority, they start crying for "bipartisanism" and "bi-partisan solutions."  They win the popular vote, they cry that the other side didn't really win, it's not fair.  Trump wins the popular vote, they start scheming again to try and get a handful of states their political machines control to decide presidential elections.  You are absolutely right.  He and the rest of them are, indeed, scum, as evidenced by President "Should be an Inmate" preemptively giving his co-conspirators pardons to protect them from actual, honest justice.
