Combo card question

Recommended Posts

Before anyone crucifies me, I DID search for the answer before starting a new topic haha- I didn't see the exact answer I was looking for and YES, it was probably staring me right in the face and I missed it..SORRY 😜  So I took the 3 hour renewal class back in October- 10/22/23 to be exact. I submitted the paperwork and renewed the next day via the ISP portal- As of today, 2/19/24, I have two cards in my wallet. My FOID, which has an expiration date of 8/27/31 (shows 12/19/33 on my account in the ISP portal) and my CCW card with an expiration date of 3/19/24 (29 days from today)- online it says it expires on 3/19/29.

Was I supposed to receive a  new combo card to replace  both of these? What happens after 3/19/24 if I haven't yet received a combo card? If I was supposed to receive a new card, who should I contact to get this going?

TIA for any and all replies,

-JKD

I renewed my CCL and FOID in December, I received a new FOID with CCL:Yes but did not receive a new CCL. I called the ISP today and they said I would not receive a new CCL as the FOID has the CCL:Yes endorsement. How will this work in states with reciprocity?

 - There is no "reciprocity" with Illinois. Some states recognize our CCL because they recognize all.

 - Continue to carry whatever card you have whenever yo carry or transport any gun or ammo.

No one cares about your plastic. No one has ever cared about your plastic. They only care about what their computers say. When their computers talk to IL's computers and IL's computers say you have a CCL, then you have a CCL. They know it as soon as they run your plates, if your car is registered to you.

The law demands you have it on you except, for the places you are not required to do so. It could be used as an excuse for jamming you up and taking your gun, to be decided in court. Yes, they can see you are legal, but the law reads it needs to be on you, or in one of the places you are not required to do so...  I would strongly advise people to consider the possible results.

Sorry 3.14, but this could jam people up.

Correct, and to add one thing. If you are able to pull up the E card from your phone off the ISP website in your account then you do not have to carry the hard card with you.

Assuming 3.14 is your pet name for me, I'd point out that the question is about what cops in other states will do with the new combo card, not what IL cops will do. I also never said don't carry the card. I only said no one cares about it (and no one does, even in IL).

That's only if you pull up the E-Card each and every day.

The E-Card is only good for 24 hours.

Never leave home without it.

(Digital Card) Yes, and one must wonder about cell coverage, and ISP site working, as well as, having to fumble with a phone with the cop looking at you. If they would make an app, for it that would be grand... like your insurance card apps. It's all ridiculous as even if you have a card it would be invalid if flagged on their system. It's also bothersome as a card lost, destroyed, or stolen is no longer valid, and according to the ISP the online card is no longer valid either. At this point you can not transport, buy or otherwise with firearms as you no longer have a valid FOID either. :0

I have been asked if I had my card with me at one stop. Funny thing was, I already gave it to him with 3 others...  DL, INS, and CCL he hadn't got to the third card yet.

@Euler, it was just a fond nickname as I like pi and also pie. :) If you don't like it, I will certainly refrain.

ISP absolutely BLEW UP my phone and email inbox notifying my my CCL was expiring. Like texted me every day until I submitted my renewal application lol. Waited til 2 days before expiration to take the class and submit my renewal paperwork. It's my way of scamming Illinois out of an extra month or two of my expiring CCL. $150 for 5 years and a couple months instead of submitting months before renewal and getting renewed with an issue date that is earlier than the expiration on the previous CCL.

As an FYI

The ISP has stopped doing this.  Quite a few complaints and phone calls were made a few years back and they now run the 5 year expiration concurrent with the expiration date your license currently has.

ISP stopped texting people? I guess they didn't get the memo to remove my number because they also emailed me lol. I think it's because of the staggered expirations I have. My FOID expires in like April and my CCL expires in March. I guess that'll go into effect when I get my renewed license.

on the E card... anyone have a problem putting in your birthdate to sign in on an android? it brings up a calendar with todays date and the only way that I can get to my birthdate is to tap back 12X63 times. Cannot type in a date - 763 taps to get back to my birthdate is silly

When the calendar comes up, go to the upper left corner and click on the year 2024. This will populate a screen that allows to roll back to your year of birth.

Then scroll to your month and click on the day you want.
