mikew Posted December 31, 2023 at 06:49 AM Posted December 31, 2023 at 06:49 AM I was getting DNS timeouts when using the default DNS servers assigned by comcast. This would affect getting to Illinois Carry as well as anywhere else. DNS timeout: your computer, browser or email can't locate the server. I edited the DNS setting in my router at home, I replaced one of the two comcast-provided dns entries with 8.8.8.8 (google, I think) and saved as a manual DNS setting. Then everything seemed OK again.

djmarkla Posted December 31, 2023 at 06:51 PM Posted December 31, 2023 at 06:51 PM That was happening on my phone yesterday using my home WIFI . (Comcast)
Flynn Posted January 1, 2024 at 01:58 AM Posted January 1, 2024 at 01:58 AM I would recommend 1.1.1.1 (Cloudflare public) and 8.8.8.8 (Google public) for most people, Cloudflare is generally a little faster to respond, not that that makes much of a difference to most but I keep it as my primary with Google as the 2nd entry, that way all my eggs are not in the same basket...
yurimodin Posted January 3, 2024 at 12:13 AM Posted January 3, 2024 at 12:13 AM ahhhh good 'ol DNS, the Achilles Heel of American internet.

SiliconSorcerer Posted February 15, 2024 at 10:32 PM Posted February 15, 2024 at 10:32 PM Now here's a DNS problem that would get your attention 😮 https://www.theregister.com/2024/02/13/dnssec_vulnerability_internet/?td=rt-4a
richp Posted February 15, 2024 at 10:45 PM Posted February 15, 2024 at 10:45 PM That's great for you guys to think in zeros and ones. (Insert friendly smile here). Does it have any impact on us ordinary users? If so, what should we do about it?
SiliconSorcerer Posted February 16, 2024 at 12:02 AM Posted February 16, 2024 at 12:02 AM Hopefully not. Unless you run your own DNS probably not. Bind buffer overflows are much more common :).
