Well, ya have until January 1st to change your mind. 😃

I'm waiting and seeing if this whole thing gets tossed which I think can still possibly, maybe, happen. I'm never the first guy to jump. I *did* go to my FOID Login and have a lookie at the registration pages and pushed and few buttons. I'm still confused about what I need to register anyway so it'll be a while.

Another item to consider

I'm sure the ISP's data base is cutting edge of technology and security.

Microsoft breach led to theft of 60,000 US State Dept emails

Quote

Chinese hackers stole tens of thousands of emails from U.S. State Department accounts after breaching Microsoft's cloud-based Exchange email platform in May.

During a recent Senate staff briefing, U.S. State Department officials disclosed that the attackers stole at least 60,000 emails from Outlook accounts belonging to State Department officials stationed in East Asia, the Pacific, and Europe, as Reuters first reported.

Additionally, the hackers managed to obtain a list containing all of the department's email accounts. The compromised State Department personnel primarily focused on Indo-Pacific diplomacy efforts

I asked a guy at the LGS (He owns it - he's the FFL Holder) what he thought the odds were of the FOID registrations list being hacked and either published or used by the hackers to dox registered assault weapon holders. He thinks about 50/50.

Not if but when.  And when happens, its accidental and not a soul to be found responsible.  Quote me.

If anybody figures it out, please let us know. I looked on the IL State Police FOID site this morning and didn't see any place to register extended magazines.

According to the ISP, you don't register hi-cap mags.  https://isp.illinois.gov/Home/AssaultWeapons

  • 2 weeks later...

So let’s say someone makes the decision to not register.  Basically you can’t ever take anything banned from your safe until the law is overturned. That’s a big if. If you take anything to the range as the law allows you run the risk of contact with LE even if you are careful. You could have a medical emergency or accident that result in contact with LE. Are gun ranges going to check in to see if you registered banned items ?

Does anyone know if after a first offense are you allowing to then register and keep your banned firearms?

In its current form as enacted, a person has until Jan 1, 2024 to register their items.  I am unaware of what would happen in your scenario.  Personally I will have chosen my course of action a couple weeks before that date. I always operate under the notion that if a government agency 'can' screw with me? They WILL screw with me, so I act accordingly to be in as much compliance as I can.

As a sadly lifelong Chicagoan, I well remember the 'good old days' of mandatory registration of all firearms.... and for the record I was in full compliance with that idiotic piece of legislation too.

we are learning new things by the day about State Police and such. Just like the brace ban, there is no rush to register and we have some other stuff in the works so stay tuned.

Anyone that feels like they should register, whats the rush? it doesn't close till the end of the year 10 weeks away.

Being an honest and law abiding citizen I must, because I value being law abiding, register my relevant firearms to stay on the proper side of The Law if it becomes my only option.

But it ain't gonna be before the last minute....I'll register when all other options for me are exhausted. So long as there is hope I'll hold out until the last week or so.
