Barred from buying a crush washer...

Illinois Sucks

Recommended Posts

I stopped by my LGS to pick up a crush washer for muzzle device for a bolt gun I recently picked up.  I was told that it was illegal to sell it to me because it was on the banned list.  I said that it was for a bolt gun which was not banned and they said that because it could be used on an AR (and said so on the packaging), that they could not legally sell it to me.

I can't wait for this nonsense to be over with.

But you could buy the crush washer elsewhere, provided it is not for an AR? ( I was thinking split washer)
Example, Menards, HomeDepot, Ace, etc. all sell crush washers of various sizes.

One solution is to ban bolts, nuts, washers, crush washers, springs, (maybe black paint), etc throughout the state. That way EVERYONE suffers, not just law abiding gun owners. Let the law makers deal with the blow back from all citizens about turning Illinois in Cuba with their restrictions.

Would a general hardware store washer meet the same specs as one designed for a firearm? I'm no gun smithing expert but was curious if there would be different specs required for firearm components.

Good question.

As I look though Brownells some stuff is "steel washer" , no special specs like a grade # steel. So, if your a firearms store you can't sell a washer, but if your a hardware store, you can? Just throwing it out there....

Call the ATF hotline and report Menards, Home Depot, for selling banned parts.

This is a great idea !!!! I think the ISP would be who to call for this. we need to get hundreds of calls to ISP everyday reporting serious crimes like this. Next year after IGOLD every participant needs to go to the ISP HQ with a crush washer or a screw or spring and turn themselves in. Demand to be charged and demand a public defender and a trial by jury. once in your cell the chest pains etc. may start due to stress and you want an ambulance ( the state gets the bill since you're in custody ). a few thousand on the same day would be good.

Something VAGUE comes to mind?

I guess you could be subject to arrest if you open that old can of nuts, bolts, screws, springs, various washer types, etc that are in that nasty coffee can or jar in your garage, and try to sell individual pieces for a $.02 each at a garage sale.

Maybe that old lawn mower you want to sell has nuts, bolts. washers, springs (carburetor), on it that can be used as "gun parts". BUSTED, can't sell it can you?!

In Bob Morgan's world: "OMG, CRUSH washers are used in automotive brake fittings AND I hear that evil guns have MUZZLE BRAKES. See the connection? Crushing and shooting are both murder! And, the Spanish Inquisition used SCREWS to stretch human bodies as a means of torture. These gun fanatics will use any object to commit murder."

Have you noticed that one particular side of the "firearm" debates, gun grabbers, seem to conjure the most evil thoughts, while the sane side, lawful firearm owners, are like are you serious?

And some of gun grabbers reveal their inner psyche with statements like "If I owned a firearm I would probably snap if someone cut me off in traffic".  As if owning a firearm would the cause of them snapping. And they project that into everyone else. Tyranny of the delusional.

I have a anti-gun friend that said the same exact thing.  Just because he would "snap" doesn't mean every other gun owner would.  They tend to project what they would do onto everyone else to justify why no one should own a gun.

We should turn the tables. If every gun owner has to register their guns, liberals should have to register their inclinations to snap.

If they can use their "I could snap" logic to restrict our rights, then they can surrender some of theirs - in the interest of public safety, of course.

They are the same. You might have to go to McMaster-Carr to get a washer of a very specific thickness to do something like time a muzzle device but it's all out there. Most of it is probably lower grade than what is needed for autos.

By default, the lawful gun owners who have not snapped at something as simple as traffic incidents, are already clear. We haven't done what they have thought of doing.

I totally agree!  He should need to register with law enforcement as unstable and can snap at any time.  What to stop him from going ballistic with some other sort of weapon??  The logic is so flawed, but the scary thing is they actually believe it to be sound.

I don't understand any of it. I went to my local Rural King yesterday to buy some .380 for my wife, and I noticed they had a bunch of rail mount accessories (red dots, magnifiers, lights, etc.) Admittedly, I haven't been around any gun dealers much since this all went down, but I assumed those items would be covered under "accessories" that are banned. I know those items arent used exclusively on the banned weapons, but I figured our lawmakers didn't really care about that. So I had to stop and ask if they were able to sell them. The nice lady at the counter told me that their legal team wont let them sell banned items, and wont let them display items they cant sell, so anything I can see I can buy. It makes no sense that we can still buy that stuff, but cant buy hardware like a crush washer from a gun dealer. Of course, I'm not expecting Illinois leaders to make sense, but I'm gonna complain about it anyway...

I have been known to write parody songs to the tunes of other songs...

In my mind's eye I have a satirical commercial for "Crush Washer City", your discount center for all things crush washer, spring , screw and clip.

Voice-over:
Yessiree folks, we have the loophole that you've been waiting for!
(video shows a pile of hardware)
Can't get that crush washer or spring for your favorite firearm?
(cut to 1 second of footage of someone shooting a machine gun)
Then you come on down to Crush Washer City where we've got all those little gun parts that you can't buy anymore,
cleverly disguised as common hardware by our sources in Indiana.
(video shows blisterpacked stuff)
(cut to 2 seconds of footage of two guys shooting machine guns)
Feeling patriotic? Our crush washers and many other parts are available in hard anodized red, white, and blue!
(video of colored hardware)

And for the lady shooter, plenty of parts and accessories in hot pink and lilac, not only our world famous crush washers!
(cut to 4 seconds of 4 hot babes shooting machine guns)

So don't wait, come on down now to the location nearest you!
We're in (stars start popping on a silhouette of Illinois) the West Loop, Rogers Park, Deerfield, Naperville, Elk Grove Village, Joliet, Rockford, Peoria and Marion!
Coming soon to Winnetka, Waukeegan, Elgin, Champaign, Bloomington, Decatur, Quincy, Effingham and Anna!

Come on down now to Crush Washer, Crush Washer, Crush Washer City!
(Cut to 4 seconds of everyone shooting machine guns)
