This is a disgrace

Somewhat off-topic, but an interesting discovery. When we visited Pensacola Naval Air Station this year, they held a service for Unaccompanied Veterans remains.  It's a program designed to assist families (especially where there is no surviving family) lay a loved one to rest with military honors. Since 2015, it operates as a program within the VA, but I'm unsure about funding. Support from local communities is heralded in news reports I've found.

In the case of this recently fallen Marine, our government can do better.

I agree our government  should pay to see our fallen soldiers to their final resting place, but $60,000 seems out of line.

How many places should the body be flown to? It went to her home in California then to Arlington.

How about the multiple costs in a war like WWII, Korea, or Viet Nam, each of which had thousands of more deaths than this one?

There would be a lot more bodies flown to home and then to a national cemetery.
