gunuser17 Posted July 25, 2023 at 09:44 PM Share Posted July 25, 2023 at 09:44 PM Note, the high cost was due to the use of a private jet. Bodies, including those killed in the military, are flown on commercial airlines often; Not sure what was the dispute here and the article doesn't explain that. as far as I can tell. RECarry Posted July 25, 2023 at 10:39 PM Share Posted July 25, 2023 at 10:39 PM Somewhat off-topic, but an interesting discovery. When we visited Pensacola Naval Air Station this year, they held a service for Unaccompanied Veterans remains. It's a program designed to assist families (especially where there is no surviving family) lay a loved one to rest with military honors. Since 2015, it operates as a program within the VA, but I'm unsure about funding. Support from local communities is heralded in news reports I've found. In the case of this recently fallen Marine, our government can do better.

Smallbore Posted July 26, 2023 at 01:18 PM Share Posted July 26, 2023 at 01:18 PM I agree our government should pay to see our fallen soldiers to their final resting place, but $60,000 seems out of line.
mab22 Posted July 26, 2023 at 06:16 PM Share Posted July 26, 2023 at 06:16 PM You will have a chance to vote coming up next year. Perhaps I can recommend that people stop voting for these Democrats, they really hate the country, it’s citizens, military and first responders, and disrespect it as often as they can. How many places should the body be flown to? It went to her home in California then to Arlington. How about the multiple costs in a war like WWII, Korea, or Viet Nam, each of which had thousands of more deaths than this one? There would be a lot more bodies flown to home and then to a national cemetery.
fxdpntc Posted July 27, 2023 at 05:15 PM Share Posted July 27, 2023 at 05:15 PM No money changed hands. The private flight was a donation. It sounds to me like the Marine Corps Assistance Team fell down, by not providing the husband with better options in a timely manner. There are military cargo flights criss crossing the U.S. every day.
