Lou Posted July 5, 2023 at 01:30 AM Posted July 5, 2023 at 01:30 AM JTA — The CEO of Kars4Kids, the Jewish charity with a catchy advertising jingle, is challenging New York state’s concealed carry law in court — claiming that it leaves children vulnerable to antisemitic attacks. Eliyohu Mintz, who heads Kars4Kids, is also the CEO of Oorah, a Jewish outreach nonprofit funded by Kars4Kids that runs a summer camp in upstate New York. In a federal lawsuit filed Friday, Mintz and a camp administrator, Eric Schwartz, say the law exposes the camp to antisemitic attack because it bans private citizens from carrying guns in places where religious activities are conducted. “The violent attacks on Jewish people targeting places of worship and places where children are — the most vulnerable of the population — are random and provide the victims with no notice or advance warning,” Mintz said in a declaration attached to the lawsuit. “I cannot be left unprepared and unarmed in the event that an evildoer decides to attack one or both of the [camp’s] campuses, nor can the other licensed staff members.” More here: https://www.timesofisrael.com/citing-antisemitism-jewish-charity-ceo-challenges-nys-concealed-carry-law-in-court/
Quiet Observer Posted July 5, 2023 at 02:06 PM Posted July 5, 2023 at 02:06 PM I do not see where the law is specifically antisemitic. It puts any camp or recreational institution run by a religious group in New York state in danger from those who would do harm. This may be outdated, but in 2017 there were 9 states that restricted guns in places of worship. Two States Ban Concealed Carry In Church, Seven Require Permission | GOA (gunowners.org) I was surprised that Illinois did not ban guns in places of worship when the FCCL was passed. I think it still is introduced at each legislative session.

One Illinois legislator who introduced such a bill in the previous GA was a rabbi, IIRC.
JTHunter Posted July 5, 2023 at 05:52 PM Posted July 5, 2023 at 05:52 PM It has always puzzled me that, considering the horrors their ancestors endured during WW2, so many Jews have not only voted for anti-gun liberals but have been anti-gun themselves. You would think that with history like that these people should be the most ardent supporters of private gun ownership.

Quiet Observer Posted July 5, 2023 at 08:01 PM Posted July 5, 2023 at 08:01 PM I think that some Jews and Christians think that they are following, "Thou shalt not kill". Others will point out that murder is a better translation. Scripture mentions that self-defense and protection of others may result in the death of the aggressor and is to be excused from punishment. It even prescribes the death penalty for certain offenses. I can understand the fear of bad people doing evil with guns. But signs on doors and wishing protects no one.

And the Jews stress: "Choose Life."

Euler Posted July 5, 2023 at 10:56 PM Posted July 5, 2023 at 10:56 PM In most places, murder is illegal. In Illinois (and some other states, probably including NY), it's extra-illegal to murder someone in a place of worship. That'll stop those murderers from murdering.

Watching some of the recent shootings, the cross dressing mental maniac's are starting to target more of the kids and churches. I quit going to our church of many years over the sticker. I don't want to break laws ever but I also don't want to enter soft target locations unarmed. Concealed will always mean concealed.

Many of us here are familiar with her story. She, of course, was one of the first, of many, to receive an Illinois CCL. He trainers were Mike and Valinda Rowe. I think that they have a little something to do with Illinois Carry. 😜 Mary Shepard #1 In IL to be Qualified for Concealed Carry License (ammoland.com)

SiliconSorcerer Posted July 6, 2023 at 05:03 PM Posted July 6, 2023 at 05:03 PM I always thought being Jewish and voting for a Democrat or being against your right to protect yourself with a firearm as an oxymoron. Hello, history tell you anything???

G214me Posted August 29, 2023 at 10:04 AM Posted August 29, 2023 at 10:04 AM The fact that so many people want no part of gun ownership and have no interest in defending themselves or their family its shocking to me. Even with thousands of years of governments turning on their own populations and cities like Chicago loaded with crime some still want to be helpless.

Glock43 Posted August 30, 2023 at 04:16 AM Posted August 30, 2023 at 04:16 AM Am I missing something here - is this really a CCW case? You don’t need a CCW to carry in your own own home or on your own property. Or someone else’s with permission. CCW is for “public” carry.

New York's "carry" law prohibits carry in places of worship, even though they are someone's private property and even if that someone wants to give permission. Remember that NY's carry law is really an elaborate vampire law. It prohibits carry virtually everywhere unless invited, but then denies owners the ability to invite entry in many cases, as well.
