KIM GARDINER HAS RESIGNED !!!

The 4 p.m. newscast has just announced that Gardiner has resigned from the St. Louis City Prosecutor's office.  It appears that the final straw was finding out that she has been taking nursing classes despite the fact that the law requires the Prosecutor to devote 100% of their work time to that office.

Not only did she NOT do that, she has apparently been using office funds for her nursing classes.

Then when will she be prosecuted for her illegal actions and misappropriation of funds????? LOCK HER UP!

Presumably there'll be an election at some point in the near future (unless under these circumstances a replacement is appointed) but we can't guarantee whether St. Louis will elect a prosecutor who'll be tough on crime versus one who won't even bother, which means the state should still look into enacting that law allowing prosecutors to be removed from office.

It's absolutely inexcusable that any city should be allowed to descend into chaos in pursuit of foolish boutique political ideologies.

I live in the metro east about 30 minutes from St. Louis.  The way they are saying is that the governor gets to appoint a new prosecutor and that there will be an election in 24.  However the state legislature has been talking about taking over the police department and prosecutors office.

Maybe they should? I mean, St. Louis (or at least downtown) seems to have fallen even further than it had in the years leading up to 2020. Maybe that was driven by the lockdowns hampering business, but the issues with crime certainly didn't help.

I agree.  Personally with all the people that want to cause issues down there I’d like to see the city crawling with cops and a prosecutor who won’t hesitate to lower the boom.

We like some of the things downtown, but I won’t go down there, not even packing.  When I even have to pass through there in the car I make sure my ccw is within easy reach.

The next election will be in 2024 but I don't know what month.

Gardiner's resignation is due to go into effect on June 1st but the SA is trying to get her out sooner as there is no reason for her to remain another 3 weeks.  From what I have heard, there are already 2 democrats that are planning on running for the office next year but Gov. Parsons (R) still gets to appoint an interim prosecutor.  Various pundits have already stated that they expect to take at least a year to get the office back to some level of functioning, probably much longer.

Part of the problem will be assistant State's Attorneys who couldn't do their jobs properly because of interference by Gardiner. They'll be frustrated, and whoever takes over needs to find a way to retain that talent, because they can certainly earn more in private practice than public service. Better to keep the good apples by showing that their work will actually be acknowledged.

And along those same lines, a departing assistant states attorney in Cook County has this to say about the situation here.

That would be an embarassment to a normal employer. But for the clowns in office its a badge of honor

  • 2 weeks later...

It now turns out that the SA investigating Gardiner had her followed on a day when she was supposed to be in court to face the judge that referred to her office as a "rudderless ship" on a contempt hearing.  Instead, she went to some medical office and stayed there for about 3 hours, missing her mandatory court appearance !

Would it be fair to say that Gardiner appears to be digging her own grave"??  June 1st can't come soon enough !
