Background here is that he is completing his high school requirements via alternative school that requires him to spend some time at the high school campus even though he's 21. As I'm reading this, the gun was not loaded with live ammo - it was loaded with snap caps like he was coming from training. I'm feeling like this kid is getting railroaded.

So he's 21...is he an adult or is he a kid?

Does a different set of rules apply because he's technically as student there even though he's not a high school student?

He's over 18 so he's an adult. I was being careful not to call him a kid but missed one. I've been old enough to avoid the bars were kids go for a while although lately that seems to be anyone under 30. 😁

Read this article last night, was wondering if the parking lot rule applies, or it that for us CCW folks only, and could he have just said No to the search?

21 year old taking classes at an alternative school , he's not smart enough to know that's an option and that is by design.

That rule is only for the CCW folks. That right there seems like enough to bring up equal protection implications.

Did the dog truly "Alert" to a gun, or did police target the car based on his FOID and license plate reader?

If they searched every car at Antioch that had a FOID linked to the plate they would have been there a good long while.

But at the High School, though?

Most of the cars in a high school parking lot are going to be registered in the parent's name.

You're allowed to FOID carry damned near anywhere.  What is this crap?  If he was a gangbanger with a loaded Glock with an autosear tucked into his pants, they'd take the gun away and let him go, 'cause equity.  This kid gets treated like a domestic terrorist.  They are coming for us, folks.
